    Please,,,,,,,,,,

Enough with these fabricated stories about Tony Ayala Jr. beating the
hell out of World Champions in San Antonio Gyms.

Fabrication; Fiction, falsehood, story, lie, figment

Supposedly a packed gym witnessed this in a San Antonio Gym in the
    Summer of 1977.

Not one film clip, photo or newspaper account.

What, not one Kodak Insta-Matic Camera was available in San Antonio
    in 1977.

Lets be real, if this sparring session happened, the Senior Ayala would
have had every available camera and film-crew in San Antonio there.

    Just The Facts:

The Gym........San Fernando Gym (319 West Travis Street, San Antonio, Texas)

    The Players:

Antonio Ayala Sr. was the Boxing Coordinator for the San Fernando Boxing Gym from 1974 thru 1983.
He resigned in 1983, when there was a dispute between the City and Ayala Sr. over the Gym's use.

Joe Souza, Supervisor for the San Antonio Parks & Recreation Department, ran a
boxing program at the gym. Later became a cornerman for Lou Duva's fight stable, including
    Tony Ayala Jr.

Tony Padilla, San Antonio Boxing Promoter, promoted many boxing events in the San Antonio area,
and was instrumental in bringing boxing back into the region.

Lou Duva, who was good friends with Joe Souzza, had several of his fighters
work-out at the San Fernando Gym. Lou Duva was also scouting Tony Ayala Jr. as
a future fighter for his stable.

Antonio Gin, a former Mexican Amateur Star, 1972 Olympic Lightweight division participant, and professional
Light-Welterweight/Welterweight boxer from 1974 thru 1978. Antonio Gin, who resembled and fought like
Pipino Cuevas, was a frequent visitor at the San Fernando Gym, and would routinely spar with amateur
    Tony Ayala Jr.

    The Story:

    The supposed story,,,,,,,
'The word was out, World WBA Welterweight Champion Jose 'Pipino' Cuevas and his Manager Lupe Sanchez
were coming to the San Fernando Gym in San Antonio, and 'Pipino' was to engage in an 'Open-to-the Public'
    gym work-out and sparring session.'

    More of the supposed story,,,,,
On Friday, August 12th, word spread throughout the city neighborhood that 'Pipino' was coming to the
San Fernando Gym on Saturday, August 13. Like 'wild-fire' on Saturday, the San Fernando Gym was flooded
with San Antonio boxing fans, gym boxers and a host of The Ayala Clan Boxing Team. Reports of more than 2000 people
showed up at the Boxing Gym to see 'Pipino'.

The 14 1/2 year-old 'pudgy teenager Tony Ayala Jr.

Would be facing this 19 1/2 year-old machine, with a 'wrecking ball' for a left-hook.

You're wasting your time on this audience, Senor. They have confused murderous punching Pipino who ruined careers with Luis Vega, whom Leonard fought in his pro debut. Give 'em a few more weeks and they'll be convinced Cuevas would be outboxed by Vega.

Given Ayala was supposed to have been an off the cuff spar i am not so convinced.

Did you work out whether you believe Duran ko'd a teenage amateur in sparring? I remember you also fobbing this off.

    Neon Leon,,,,,,,,

In 1977, Tony Ayala Jr. was fighting 14 and 15 year-olds in the National Junior Olympics and
    Regional Tournaments.

June 1977, he was in Lincoln, Nebraska at the National Junior Olympics.

Mike Oliviero, who was a 156 lb. 15 year-old amateur from Oklahoma, fought him.
He said, most of the teenage kids that Tony Ayala Jr. fought, had virtually no amateur experience.

    His accomplishments, were somewhat 'over-rated'.

    Proof,,,,,,,,,,,

    Haven't you read this thread........

All the articles of the 'so-called sparring session' never even mentioned
the gym where the supposed event took place, and any names either.

Look at the information I posted,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Please,,,,,,,,show us the documentation that you have that the sparring session took place, besides a bunch of articles with no details,,,
not even the gym name, a date or all the principals involved.

They can't post any information,,,,,,,because that sparring session was
    a 'MYTH".

Not one article mentioned the San Fernando Gym, the location of the gym,
Joe Souzza, or that Tony Ayala Sr. even was the Boxing Coordinator of the Gym.

Doesn't any of that information strike you funny...

Ayala got much the better of Cuevas that day, of that there's no doubt. It's well documented that Cuevarse's trainer kept on saying "increible" in Mexican (that's "incredible" with the 'd' left out. There's also a little dash type thing above each 'e' but alas I do not have a Mexican keyboard). Anyway, Cuervo's trainer also said stuff like "how could you let a 14 1/2 year old future all time great in Mikey Ayala do that to you, you skinny runt of a bean eating fukk? And besides all of that...I can't stand the way you part your hair to the side. You nerdy fukkin twat :fire"

    Bollox,,,,,,,,,

I like your style,,,,,,,,,,,,right to the point....

But, everything you posted was from those 'so-called' articles with no exact documentation,,,,,,,in other words no names or details.

Just why in the world would Pipino Cuevas and his Manager Lupe Sanchez go to
some boxing gym in San Antonio in August of 1977.

Pipino had just finished flattening Clyde Gray in Los Angeles on August 6, 1977, and he had been
in training for 6-weeks prior that bout.

Wouldn't you think that the 19 1/2 year old Pipino would be on vacation somewhere along the Mexican ocean-front,
spending his fight purse money, instead of going to a San Antonio Boxing Gym a week after the fight.

    Common sense,,,,,,

    Jose 'Pipino' Cuevas (1977 Photo)

This is what 14 1/2 year-old Tony Ayala Jr. would have been facing, if that 'mythical' sparring session took place.

What if a 14-and-a-half-year-old Tony Ayala had sparred a prime Mike Tyson ...

Give me the source that supposedly proves Cuevas was never in San Antonio leading up the the Gray bout.

Give me the source that Antonio Gin supposedly sparred in San Antonio with Tony and fought from 1974-1978, when the record clearly shows three fights in 1974-1975, all in L.A.

Give me a more up to date record site than BoxRec...if there is one.

Y not make it fairer and more realistic ? what if a 14 and a half Tony Ayala Jr. sparred with n almost 11 yrs old Mike Tyson ? summer of 1977 Mike Tyson vs summer of 1977 Tony Ayala Jr. . If it's uncompetitive 1 can ask d same question about n autumn of 1977 Mike Tyson vs summer of 1977 Tony Ayala Jr.
