No need for a Kirkland vs Angulo rematch

I think it is obvious that he wasn't handling Kirkland's power, I think he knew from their sparring that James could hurt him, so he tried to "box" and was getting pressured and got a beautiful counter in when James got wild. He had James hurt, but lets not forget James was able to take some of Angulo's punches while recovering and then when he unloaded on him Angulo simply could not handle that raw power.

 

I guarantee you Erislandy Lara and Ishe Smith will be calling him out within days. And considering they both are hard to hit accurate punchers with decent chins, they'd probably both beat him.

 

Ishe smith isn't doing ****.

Lara would be a good fight though, but I question his ability to handle Kirkland's power if he connects.

 

Kirkland won that fight dominantly enough to normally have no need for a rematch but this could be a case where a rematch is doable. If Angulo doesn't punch himself out then a rematch would be much closer and its gauranteed fireworks. You don't do the rematch right away but let Angulo, if he can, work himself back and see what happens. Maybe Kirkland loses again or struggles in fights he shouldn't and Angulo puts a few wins together. Not now, but sometime in the next year or two there will be a good time for a rematch.

How so? Angulo had his chance and blew it. Angulo's best chance against Kirkland will always be the first couple of rounds.I think he knew that, which is why he tried to get him out of there immediately. Kirkland is stronger, faster & the better conditioned fighter. Angulo can't fight backing up. For whatever reason Kirkland is susceptible to get knocked down the first couple of rounds, but once he gets warmed up he's a beast

 

People there is a reason Angulo was willing to blow his load, something I've never seen him do, when he had Kirkland hurt. It wasn't because he got cocky its because he felt James' power.

i would like to see a rematch and as others have said, if angulo didn't go crazy on that first round, this would have been a more competitive fight...(not saying that angulo would have won)

-after that 1st kd, angulo shouldn't have gotten up, he didn't have anything left, he should have stayed down and live to fight another day. (see morales against pac 3)

-the ref should have stopped the fight, after angulo got up, his legs were unsteady, and he had a glazed eye. the ref could also have stopped it during 2nd or 3rd as his legs are still unteady, there's no snap on his punches and he was taking a lot of punishment.

-Nacho should have thrown in the towel or stopped the fight from 2nd or 3rd round on.

 

I would love to see Kirkland/Lara. I really like those type of stylistic clashes.

Bro its obvious Angulo wasn't handling James power AFTER he punched himself out. Angulo was going to have trouble boxing the faster Kirkland but I aint discrediting Kirklands win just very uncharacteristic and foolish of Angulo whos usually a one gear high stamina fighter. I was about to bet on Kirkland too because I believe a good puncher beats a good brawler but thought Perro would cut him down systematically and take his time, like a Beristein fighter would. Not blow his load like that! Should of gone with my instincts!

 

I think I agree with you. Kirkland gained a huge edge in there tonight. It would be much tougher the second time around for Angulo. He didn't look like he wanted anymore of James Kirkland after what he was put through tonight.

The fight was nearly his in the 1st round, but man Kirkland just would NOT be denied. That is one determined dude and you can't teach that to a fighter. He needs to watch out for good boxer/punchers who throw straight punches, possess good handspeed, and are accurate. That is the kind of fighter he'll always have problems with, in my opinion.

Ann Wolfe got him in great condition, but Angulo fought the kind of fight that James Kirkland thrives on. The better man between those two won tonight.
