I don't see a rematch ending any better for George. Anyone see a need for it...other than it is contracted...
I feel the same way. Kambosos isnt Elite, and theres no way he can beat Haney outside of a robbery decision.
No need but it will happen because to much money and 3rd parties involved. Makes no sense for George not to enforce it.
Return bout outcome is about as predictable as the first bout outcome, but the rematch should be honored if it's in the contract. Kambosos is facing an inevitable trashing now, but he's a decent little world level competitor. Problem for him was he caught lightning in a bottle with López (who was a disorganized mess, while George was focused and fighting out of his skin), and that performance was always going to be a tough act to live up to.
Why not, it's what any fighter should want, another shot to beat an opponent. He still has a chance to land something. Maybe his opponent also gets overconfident, takes training easier etc. Look what happened with Ruiz Jr., an extreme case maybe, but still.
There was even less need for Fury vs Wilder 3, but almost everyone tuned in to watch it anyway. Maybe Kambosos ring attire was too heavy in the first fight, maybe he had an injured pink toe or wore the wrong socks? Who knows?!
Haney is only 23yrs, he'll wipe the floor with GK this 2nd time so it's easy money and he still has 10 years of elite fighting after that...... makes sense really.
It's quite surprising (or maybe not) how certain people try to play down the chance of winning for Kambosos in a potential rematch and also arguing that there is no need for a rematch but then on the other hand the same people are claiming Joshua wins the rematch against Usyk and it's necessary etc. Agenda driven clowns.
Agreed, Haney should defend the titles against someone like Tank or Loma, that would be a much more interesting fight than a pointless rematch which is guaranteed to have the exact same outcome.
Fury Wilder 1 and 2 were at least mildly entertaining and the first fight was competitive in the sense that Fury was very close to being counted out. My disinterest in the rematch isn't denying Kambosos has a puncher's chance or may be able to put on a better showing, it's that the fight was boring as hell. If the showbiz aspect is allowed to make boxing worse so often I wish they would let it make boxing better just this once. The rematch is not necessary for AJ vs Usyk and I do wish we could get a matchup out of AJ/Usyk vs Wilder/Fury instead, but at least AJ vs Usyk 1 was an exciting fight. If Fury is really retired, Wilder and Whyte coming off knockout losses, most of the other HWs on a milk carton somewhere, it's a #1 vs #2 fight so it isn't nearly as egregious. The undisputed champ at LW isn't the consensus best in the division and that has to be resolved before anything else. Let Haney fight Loma and/or Tank then do the rematch (which is similar to how I wish the AJ vs Usyk rematch, if it must happen, would be handled).
