I know Im going to take heat for this but I think Mayweather beats everyone at 130,135 and 140(except for Taylor)

Of course Taylor is not the best of the bunch but what im looking for what is Floyd's weakness against and to me its speed. Taylor IMO had the ATG fastests hands, and it would be impossible for Mayweather to adjust to it. I can see Duran,Pryor and Chavez getting the nods from aggression and maybe even clocking PBF, but id still favor floyd.

this thread is funny. I think Floyd could hang with some of those greats but there are few that I'm sure beat him.

    I'd pick:

    Duran
    Robinson
    DLH
    Mosely at 135
    Tommy Hearns
    Julio Cesar Chavez

over him. I'm sure I'm missing some others but those are the ones that popped in my head.

130: Rate Floyd #1, but Armstrong and Chavez could beat him based on styles. Wouldn't rule out Elorde, either.

135: Duran for sure, Ortiz, and quite possibly Benny Leonard. (It's odd, but I think Floyd would match-up rather well with Pernell Whitaker in terms of style, so I might be inclined to pick him. 52/48 kind of fight, though.)

140: Chavez again, DLH, and Pryor.

147: Let's see...Robinson, Leonard, Napoles, Armstrong, Griffith (at least once in a three fight series), Gavilan (same), and Hearns.

The verdict? Floyd's more than likely an ATG, but in terms of style, and in some cases, in terms of talent, there are fighters out there who I'd pick to beat him in hypothetical match-ups.

Guess that makes me a hater...:D

I knew I was forgetting people. I forgot Leonard, Pryor, and Napoles.

If Floyd Mayweather was REALLY that good, he'd have already completely cleaned out 140, 147, and 154 Including beating Winky at 154.

    I would pick
    Both Leonards Benny and Ray
Both suger Rays Robinson and the above mentioned Leonard
    Whitaker
    To beat Mayweither.
If DeLaHoya could be competive with him than Hearns has a good chance at beating him as well.

Knew you'd be calling me out on this.:D

Here's my take on a Whitaker-Mayweather match-up. You're dealing with two fighters who possess excellent defensive ability, so you're not going to see very many clean punches landed. Whitaker possesses an excellent jab, but I think Mayweather's right hand is just as good...good enough, in fact, to counter over the jab, and force Sweet Pea to reset.

Whitaker is obviously a much better boxer than Judah could ever hope to be, but, he doesn't hit nearly as hard, and that gives Mayweather the opportunity to throw counters, and to apply pressure without as much fear of the Sweet Pea's incoming.

Bear in mind that at lightweight, Mayweather also tended to throw more in combination, and could double and triple up on the right hand. Plus, he'd be varying the power on it, and going to the body to make certain that it would connect at a somewhat higher percentage.

In a fight like this, one or two clean punches would be enough to carry a round. I think Mayweather's ability to time (based on those fast-twitch muscles), and the cool that he possesses when he's in a tight encounter serve him well in this type of match, and allow him to sneak across the finish line with a close decision.

Could go the other way, but more often than not, I see Mayweather getting the nod.

To a bloody blood pissin' pulp.

At 130 Arguello, in his own era, would come from behind to knock him out in 13 or 14. In a 12 rounder Floyd might pull off a decision, but then again, Arguello would probably step on the gas earlier. It's just hard to imagine PBF surviving El Flaco Explosivo's right hand and brutal combos for the distance. I mean we are talking about a guy who on occasion changed the course of a fight with a single punch. Alexis, who was arguably the calmest most level headed fighter ever, would eventually catch Floyd, and it would be good night PBF.

At 135 PBF would never have said yes to a fight with Duran, but if he did Roberto takes him to school for 6 or 7 rounds, and knocks him out in less than 8.

At 147, and 154, Lenoard, Hearns, and certainly Robinson. Hearns would DESTROY HIM!!!

Floyd's record, as skilled as he is, is as much a matter of careful match making as it is his ability.

I didn't know this was your thread...I know you are hungry for history and like boxing...but a statement like that will not make you to popular with guys like me.....PBF legacy is still on the balance and will remain there until he retired...that he could be some of the top ATG on those weight classes...maybe a few if they fought 5 times he might win one or two...but those weight clases include the best boxers in history starting with everyone top two :
    This content is protected
    and
    This content is protected
...PBF is quick and slick but he is not half as slick as
    This content is protected
, he is not half the boxer that
    This content is protected
was of for that matter at 135, he would not handle the pressure of the master of the 135
    This content is protected
    ....hell ,
    This content is protected
would ahve handle him with ease and I donlt think he would have last 12 against the Hawk, he would have fair well against
    This content is protected
was it would not been a clear thing...any strong boxer with power he would ahve had a tought time handling them....these guys are all ATG's the best of the best...even at 130 were I considered PBF best weight class..hell
    This content is protected
would ahve give him all he can handle...but guys like
    This content is protected
    or
    This content is protected
would also have presented PBF with some very tough fights andones that would not favor him....these two guys can hit and were pressure fighters....
    This content is protected
    and even
    This content is protected
would have been able to handle him at 135 or 140...

You have to study and undersdtand who you are dishing when you post a statement like this one...if you like PBF good, but don't discredit yourself like that .....:patsch
