This. Also, Floyd was also still a SFW while Spadafora was a Lightweight. Floyd wouldn't move up to lightweight for another few years. You can tell Spadafora hit harder and had faster hands than Floyd expected.

This is the reason even a top fighter should always ease themselves into a higher weight class. It the same reason I don't see Loma jumping to lightweight right away.

 

Floyd would be 0-49 if he fought those same guys at a different time and/or weight, and God knows how many losses he have in sparring.. But.....lol

Sparring? Floyd/Spadafore was not a heavy duty sparring session. No way did Spadafore do anything significant against Floyd.

 

Sparring means jack **** of what would happen in a real fight.

That being said, young Floyd struggled with southpaws. No question. He got better with age (he figured it out only around the Guerrero fight. Even as late as Judah and Ortiz he was struggling with landing his straight right down the pipe)

Young Floyd would have been absolutely dismantled by Loma at 130lbs. I imagine he would have lost to Spadafora as well at 130-140lbs. Just too awkward when faced with a southpaw. We'll never know because sparring means squat!

And yes, Spadafora was wrapping up a full 8wk camp. Floyd was brought in for sparring and was not in training camp himself for an upcoming fight!

 

And lose to Pedquiao, right? LOL

By the time he was 38yrs old and fighting pac he had totally figured it out. The straight left down the pipe was money.

Pre-WW floyd just looked plain awkward vs a southpaw. He'd get diced up. Sorry.

That's what I had heard. Spadafora was already peaking at that time, and Floyd as cocky as he was then thought he can just walk right up and beat anybody, and he didn't look too good against Spadafora that day.. But had both been in tip top fighting shape, I think Floyd would have gotten the better of Spadafora.. Good sparring session though.

sparring ain't nothing Floyd vs Spadafora, Mayweather was just getting back into camp after a layoff. ps was fresher and going all out Floyd was going 50%

sparring is not conclusive because they do not cheat there. see their actual performance most especially when they are facing tough opposition and when they are behind the cards. hugging, running, elbowing, head-butting,etc
