After days of negotiating that were going so bad that talks had already been started to match Kelly Pavlik and Giovanni Lorenzo in June, a financial deal was reached late last night to match Pavlik and John Duddy. However, very early on Sunday morning, the cut that Duddy suffered in his bout against Walid Smichet was deemed too deep and severe and he will not be fighting against Pavlik in June, according to Team Duddy. The likely opponent is Giovanni Lorenzo, according to Team Pavlik. The bout also might not be held at Madison Square Garden. With Lorenzo the likely opponent and not Duddy, the bout might be moved to Ohio or at least closer to Pavlik's hometown of Youngstown, Ohio. Mike This content is protected This content is protected
I agree. If Duddy put in that performance from the first few rounds against Pavlik, he would get hammered.
That's what I thought - that Lorenzo was a top IBF MW contender but there would be nothing wrong with a Pavlik-Lorenzo fight but I question if Lorenzo is better prepared than Duddy is, not that he is physically weaker but which fights have prepared Lorenzo for a major WBC-WBO MW title shot?
A cut so bad that it will take 4 months to heal? Hell, Kelly had his arms dangling off after requiring 2000 stitches and was back to training in 2 weeks. Is this legit or did his trainers finally realize something?:yep
Good job, Duddy has done nothing to warrant a shot at Pavlik. Beating a shot Eastman is not a major achievement.
Abraham coming to fight on the show was a plan, but only one of the plans that I had heard. Whether or not there was enough money to bring him here was a major issue. Lorenzo is now on the clock for June 7 against Pavlik. Do not be surprised if the co-feature is Andy Lee vs. TBA. Lee has been in talks with Top Rank about signing a huge deal with them. First time I watched one of Duddy's fights.Damn! He struggled with a Canadien based no-hoper looking like an average journeyman. Duddy is no match for any top fighter. He isnt even a match for the fringe contenders like Khoren Gevor,Mariano Carrera,or Amin Asikainen. I even doubt that he can beat someone like Sebastian Demers. Duddy is a totally overrated hype job who wouldnt last more than 2 rounds against either Abraham or Pavlik.
