The point is, all the fighters you accused Roy of ducking, never wanted to fight Roy as much as Tarver did...

If DM crashed his post fight press conference, I am sure he would have signed the fight. Tarver was clearly better than DM at that point, more known in America, was making the most noise in boxing by calling his name and style wise presented serious problems for Roy.

Roy had balls for dropping weight to fight him, criticizing him for that makes no sense, he clearly was the most dangerous fighter at the time. Coming off of impressive performances.

Roy won that fight close, end of story... Not many fighters in history have dropped from HW to win the LHW championship in their very next fight.. Just like not many that started at JMW won belts from MW to HW...

Tarver is the only man that truly wanted to fight Roy Jones to the point of calling him out and chasing him..... And it is because he is the only one that truly thought he could win.. Most of the fighters you mentioned, made comments suggesting that they doubt their ability to beat him.. And never crashed Roy's party....

I certainly wish Roy would have fought some of those guys... But it is not ALL Roy's fault as you insist. They were reluctant as well, timing and money wasn't right.. I am pretty sure Don King was too much involved in Jones vs. Benn to the point of standing in the way, they both wanted to fight. Benn certainly respected him, at one point saying he didn't mind being second to Roy.

Roy could have pushed for more of those fights no doubt..

But he did not outright duck everyone you accuse him of ducking.. Some of those fights were bad timing, promoters in the way, not the right money, ect... The same can be said about EVERY fighter. There are always good fights that didn't happen for some reason.

Fact is, for all those he didn't fight, he beat 2 ATG fighters, the bigger names of the generation, convincingly. Won belts in 4 weight classes, beat a HW belt holder, held the mythical P4P championship for a while, when he wasn't #1 by ring he was usually #2 in that 10 year time period.

He is a world wide household name, the ones you listed him ducking are not.. He is respected by all of his rivals... It has to count for something.

 

Please, if Roy ever fought Dariusz he'd have clowned him like he did everyone else. Roy beat better fighters than Dariusz. Fact. Dariusz did not beat better fighters than Roy. Fact. Roy is a first ballot HOF'er, fact. Dariusz is not. Fact. :deal

Too early to tell. I wouldn't put him over Toney yet either. Those beasts from the 90's would laugh at the Super 6. Ward would have his hands full with Eubank, Graham, Benn, and I don't think he'd beat Toney, McCallum, and much less Rj. Calzaghe would be an even fight IMO. Ward wouldn't gas like Bhops and he'd be the cleaner puncher. Joe would just punch away, but I'd give the edge to Ward.

Sorry. Jones has a Glass Jaw. Not going to pick him in many Head to Head fights with other ATG's. It would be a huge factor. Keep in mind Jones NEVER even fought a legit Savage puncher either. His Chin would get shattered against other ATG's in brutal and embarrassing fashion.

 

His chin didn't get shattered until he moved down in weight.
His neck lost a lot of muscles (it's gotten thinner) making you more prone to KOs.

It probably never was iron, but moving down again probably did hurt him a lot. (Actually it smashed him to the ground)
