No real point in getting worked up by Mayweather's rhetoric...

...there really isn't. Floyd Mayweather is who he is. Perhaps he just can't help himself. Maybe - like MikeTyson - it'll take him getting his ass kicked for him to learn some humility, but I wouldn't count on it. My guess is that he'll still relentlessly pat himself on the back after a loss, like Roy Jones Jr.

Floyd may end up going down in history as one of the greatest p4p fighters of all time. He may end up in the top 15 of most lists. But he'll never be considered an icon. Never. He will never be as beloved as Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, or Sugar Ray Leonard. He won't be lighting any olympic torches, he won't have any documentaries devoted solely to him.

Let Floyd be the childish clown he is. Don't buy into his bull****. He wants to disrespect the sport by saying he is only in it for the money, **** it. He wants to act like he doesn't care what anyone thinks of him, then ask him why he wept like a baby after being booed by his own fans after the Baldomir fight. Ask him why Shane Mosley - with his 5 losses - still gets WAY more respect than he does. Ask him why despite going unbeaten, he still came in second place on the fighter of the decade list to a guy who beat 2 guys he already beat. There is a reason for that.

I used to be a Floyd Mayweather supporter, but I have lost a LOT of respect for him lately. But instead, of going on and on about the venom that comes out of his mouth, I wish I could just look him in the eyes and tell him..."They may respect your skills inside of the ring, but they'll NEVER - EVER respect you outside of it. They will never love you."

Once he gets that through that thick skull of his, then maybe - just maybe he'll become more humble, and people will begin to respect him.

    all true.

at this point floyd doing less talking would probably make people focus and appreciate his skills and fights will sell themselves!.

love for the sport and respect from the fans is what should matter most, not little pieces of green paper to collect,he has enough o that already.

ide like floyd just to not be fake and act real, just fight who people want you to fight,i mean its possible he could have taken cotto and margarito to school if he faced them but now people just doubt him and questions loom over how good floyd really is.

and if shane loses to floyd and looks old doing so then floyd doesnt fully gain respect again.

years after hes retired wele respect his skill and not focus so much on his trash talk, but i he leaves questions over his level of oposition and how good was he really then floyd will regret not being a good competitor and regret being more of a business man/ risk reducing sportsman.

I was feeling your post until you started getting a little personal and cry babyish, but you're right for the most part just don't let another person's life make you sensitive

THe problem is hes getting more popular because of his actions. That just shows the state of the world. So much emphasis has been put on materialistic crap, and it all started with rap music. Dam that rap music, its the cause of all this!!!!!!!!!

it's no rhetoric but tripe. can't blame him though. that's how he sells his fights. his style is not fan friendly so he has to make up for it by talking thrash to generate interest. i hate to say it but it seems working.

If you are foolish enough to believe that Ali was "loved" by America then I bet all of the stuff you just said makes sense to you. Why don't you go back and look at some of Ali's early fights and see who the crowd was cheering. Ali was ONLY loved in the Black community.

Then to your "more humble" what the hell is humble? Letting people tell you that you are scared of another man in an interview? F that. These media punks have inflammatory interviews with FMJ all day long then act like he is the bad guy for ripping into them. Take a look at how the media changed RJJ.

Why don't you review history and see why FMJ is the way he is now. He tried to be disrespectful but clowns like Larry Merchant, Brian Kenny, Dan Rafael eventually get under a man's skin and he starts saying F all of you.

Just look at the softball interviews Pac gets. Easy to be humble when guys aren't saying, "Why aren't you fighting so and so?"

By the mid 70s, America loved Ali, and that continues to this very day. The man is one of our most beloved sports figures.

Materialism started with rap music? Huh? Ever heard of Babylon? The English Monarchy? Colonialism? Slavery? Wall Street? Greed and materialsm didn't begin with a few poor guys rapping on a street corner.

You aren't dissappointed. Do you get dissappointed in the media? Notice the difference in tone of these two interviews:

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQULFjCU6Ao[/ame]

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwaaSxmQjh0&feature=related[/ame]

Notice how Brian Kenny never ripped Pac for not fighting Mosley instead of Cotto when Mosley was OBVIOUSLY the more dangerous fighter.

    Ross Greenburg respects him.

You do seem a little mad here though. Just remember, Joe Frazier still hasn't completely forgiven Ali for what was said before their second fight and Sugar Ray Robinson used to always say that he didn't love boxing and only did it for money and because he was good at it (thanks to Hitman-Jab in other thread for pointing this out).

    Time heals everything.

What excuses? Watch any of those guys. They start nice. The ignorant boxing commentators and boxing media eventually make them hate the world.

    I see the BS.
