No sane person can dismiss my claim that Joe Calzaghe is the best boxer of all time..

If he outclasses Mikkel Kessler this weeked, aged 35 no less. It would simply be illogical. There would be zero counter-arguments against it.

I am talking about Calzaghe being the best, not the greatest legacy wise. So take that into account. Beating a superb champion like Kessler aged 35 is nothing short of miraculous. He would have put one two of the finest display of boxing ever seen in his twighlight years.

The Kessler and Lacy victories will easily prove Calzaghe to be on the level of the Jones and Robinsons. Not just because Kessler is a good opponent but the manner in which he will have won.

Right now, everyone appreciates that Calzaghe is supremely talented. After the weekend everyone will have no choice but to seriously consider the idea thaty Joe Calzaghe is the best boxer in the history of the sport. At least until the American influenced media poison the sponge-like minds of boxing fans the world over.

This is Ali - Foreman, except Kessler is more than a 4 round fighter and generally looks to be more skilled and gifted and Joe Calzaghe will get things done even with crippling hand problems.

THERE WILL BE NO VALID COUNTER-ARGUMENTS - resumes are needed for greatness, beating Lacy in such style and future legend Kessler in such style is all the case we need.

People can suggest Jones etc might have been slightly better, but no rational human being can say "Joe Calzaghe definitely was not the best ever."

Joe would get more respect on here if you didn't present him as the Jesus of boxing

While Robinson was 35+, he was busy KOing and beating the likes of Basilio, Olson and Fullmer..

Archie moore, the likes of Harold Johnson and Joey Maxim... hell, he won the LHW title when he was over 38!

Duran beat Barkley when he was 38...

    Ehh you get the idea.

35? Kessler? seriously, as has been presented above there are significantly greater achievements done by fighters who were older, more active and who spent their primes in greater wars than calzaghe. I'm a fan, I think he's a tremendous fighter but this thread is an insult and basing a man's legacy around two fights (one which he hasn't even won yet!).

No way on gods green earth that clazaghe is the best boxer of all time, its very debateable if hes even the best british boxer of all time....Heck is he even the best boxer in the world today?
I like joe and believe he is a great boxer with lots of heart and talent, but even if he COMPLETELY and utterly 'lacys' kessler it still wont get him to no1 spot of all time,or even close....For one simple reason (among others) alone, not enough fights against true atgs.......
Rmember hopkins, moore, foreman and jersey joe all won championships and had great performances well past the 35 age mark...
Your logic is more fragile than china joes' hands.....

If he beats Kessler - I will join in with your claims, CHJ. Maybe with the modification - Greatest fighter of all time.

Kessler is vastly, vastly superior to Joe Maxim.

The way you should see it Robinson was struggling with the slightly limited and outweighed Basilio when he was 35. Calzaghe would crush him.

But as I said you are putting forward names like Robinson which is fine. I won't rule out your names, there is no way of being sure. But like I cannot rule out the Robinsons, nobody can rule out Joe Calzaghe.

He may or may not be the best in the world today. He can't be far off. But that is at the age of 35. He was a lot, lot better than he showed against Lacy at 34.

Hahaha. Calzaghe would crush Robinson? I would hope so, a natural 168lber should crush a natural 147lber. Though, Robinson would really take it to him. He beat better fighters than Calzaghe. :good

But I won't rain on your little love fest.

Hopkins beat trinidad at past 35 and trinidad is a more proven fighter than kessler, ditto duran over barkley, robinson over fullmer, walcott over charles....Kessler maybe prime but how is he elite? How about toney beating prime jirov 30 pounds over his first world title victory when past 30? Moore when about 40 beating yvon durelle? How about jones beating ruiz at HEAVY and beating a guy who weighed 65 pounds above jones original title weight of 160? Lennox at 37 over prime vitali? There are probably many more examples, and as i think of them i will let you know.... You cant even make a case for joe for being in the top ten of all time,no way......
Is he even the best supermiddle of all time? Ask mister jones......
ps; if he is not undisputedly the best fighter in the world currently then how can he be the best ever?
Bear in mind i assume you think floyd is the main one who could be classed as better than joe currently, and floyd is probably past prime, definately past his prime weight divisions.....So floyd could pip calzaghe to the no1 spot hey? (by the way im only being kind of sarcastic here,no way floyd or calzaghe are anywhere near close to even the top ten all time.)

If he does beat Kessler, even if he only just scrapes by, I will be a believer. I think both guys have a lot to prove.

Kessler at 168 is better than Trinidad up at 160 where he was proved to be out of his depth. He also went on to be shut-out by Wright. Kessler will not go on to have such performances anytime soon.

Toney beating Jirov? The same Toney outclassed by the magnificant Jones? Outboxed by Nunn? Toney was never even a true elite fighter. Only percieved as one by the American media.

Jones. I will not argue against Jones. He could possibly even beat Calzaghe at 168 who knows?

The all time best P4P fighters in the history of boxing:

    1. Calzaghe (without steroids)
    2. Roy Jones (with steroids)
