No sane person can dismiss my claim that Joe Calzaghe is the best boxer of all time..

He did look very good against Lacy, but not like the best ever because it wasn't all that hard to do! RJJ against Toney was much more convincing, because Toney's style was to neutralise his opponents, unlike Lacy who was used to beating them with power, and also because of what Toney did before and after that fight. Compare and contrast with what Lacy did and has gone on to do.

Calzaghe is good, and could surely hand with some of the greats, but nothing shows that he would be sure to beat them. His many disappointing matches should be considered in looking at him, not just how he looked against Lacy and in wet dreams about the Kessler fight.

 

One could perhaps argue that he's the greatest fighter of all time. But most sane people would agree that his resume falls way short to earn this accolade.

 

If Calzaghe beats Kessler handily one could definitely argue that he is the best super middleweight of all time. Although I would still say RJJ; he was even faster, more athletic and had greater power than Joe although Calzaghe has the edge in fitness and workrate. Prime Calzaghe vs prime Jones at super middleweight would have been a dream fight.

Ask Joe Calzaghe whether he could have beaten RJJ in his prime at super middleweight. You'd get a wry, knowing smile and acknowledgement of how good Jones was. It is easy to forget that in the aftermath of the Tarver and Johnson losses when Jones was way past his prime.

I think Joe knows that a prime Jones would've probably beaten him, but he'd have given it his best shot like the true warrior that he is.

 

Calzaghe is the best british fighter of all time IMO.

Im positive he beats the likes of collins, watson & benn (he`s already beat eubank, dominated him.)

I always thought he might have been the man to beat rjj when roy was superman (personal opinion)

Next to floyd & pac, I rate him as the best of today.
I just wish he`d fight in usa, it would improve his legacy leaps & bounds because the talent is defo there to see.

The man of all time has to go to robinson tho, must be said, he was everything.

Ps. I hope joe ****s kessler up then beats both taylor & hopkins, bagging the lt-hwt tile in the process.

Maybe defend it once vs winky then retire unbeaten but he will have to fight in the states vs b-hop for the 175 title, that shouldnt be a problem as long as he does his usual training on the hills of wales, thats whats made him great to date.

As for the actual boxing.... a ring is a ring once your in there no matter where it is.

If he beats Kessler I would regard him, as the greatest 168lbs in fact I probably already do this win would just cement it. Some may say head to head Jones beats him at 168lbs but if he beats Kessler there is little doubt Calzaghe has better wins at this weight. I would never regard Calzaghe as the greatest boxer whether its on ability or resume but if he beats Kessler I would put him up there with Jones, Hopkins, Morales, Barrera and De La Hoya as the best of this generation.
