Does anyone know whats going on with that fight? I just watched an interview with Gassiev, and he says there is no set date yet!! BoxRec changed it to a week forward from May 5th, to now May 11th. But they aren't always accurate.

Then, I've read several articles that they are trying to move the location of the fight. Saudi Arabia isn't the most convenient place for boxing fans to travel to, and there is rumors that the fight will be moved to Russia, or Ukraine, the home countries of the fighters.

It’s been set for May 11 in Saudi Arabia since before Gassiev and Dorticos fought.

That most probably means that the organizers are having financial difficulties... I think they've promised too much, and now are puzzled over where to get those money... And that sucks because it endangers next possible WBSS tournaments in the future.

The CW finals are for sure in Jeddah on May 11. The city is big enough to gather enough people. Idk about the fans though, could face some kind of visa difficulties or something like this maybe? Never been to Saudi Arabia. One month left and there is almost no way the place gets changed because soon the boxers will be there to climatise.

I think it’s a very odd venue choice. Neither fighter is middle eastern so there’s no local support for either save for the random fan of either fighter that may exist. You can’t sell liquor at the venue, unless there’s some exemption for sports I’m unaware of. I’m not sure you can even use traditional ring girls. The check the promoters are getting from whoever wanted fight there must be astronomically high because otherwise it’s guaranteed to be a large fiscal loss.

Someone from Gassiev team said that Comosa AG, WBSS sponsor, are negotiating with Russian Boxing Federation to move the final to Moscow.

But it looks like they don't know about recent Ukrainian goverment legislation that forbids Ukrainian sportsmen to compete in any events in Russia.

Yeah the problem with the alcohol and women is interesting but the choice is good because this is the most neutral place ever :D

Kalle Sauerland better be 100% clean and off the cocaine before he sets foot in Saudi. They have zero tolerance policy towards drugs.

Money should not be a problem. Any international sporting event will draw the curiosity of the locals and they will pay big money.

I read a Ukranian article a few days ago that seems to suggest Saudi Arabia is still not confirmed.

Maybe the whole Houthi situation is worrying them?

I mean if Scud missles can reach Riyadh then they probably reach Jeddah I suppose. Idk I'm no expert in cold war era tactical ballistic missles.

Well there’s also the problem of the tickets only being able to be bought by men, unless my understanding of the Wahhabi law is flawed. I’m not sure how big the venue is but they probably could sell out a 7k-10k seat arena? I’m not sure there would be much more local interest than that.

The Kalle point is a hilarious, albeit probably serious, point. Hopefully we don’t read stories on Sunday morning about Kalle being locked up but he’ll probably be taken care of by someone with royal ties, so I’m sure he’ll be able to do all the coke he wants to as long as he doesn’t show up with white powder on his nose or some **** lmao
