Hi, I know this must have been asked before, but the truth is I don't really know why it's adviced not to. Recently I saw Miguel Cotto say it in a comedy show, but I don't know if he's just playing or if it's for real. What I have heard is that it keeps your legs strong, but I don't really understand why would having sex weaken your legs, also if it is true that boxers have to hold it in their pants, for how long? Oh yeah, I also rememberd when I was joggin with a friend a long time ago, he told me it also affected your stamina. How much of this is true, and most importantly how does it work biologically?
From what I've heard on it is that if you dont have sex for a couple of weeks beforehand your testostoron will be higher. I know De La Hoya believed in it and practiced it but hell, Ive had a morning wake me up before a fight and still won so... I think its more of a superstition thing.
Thanks for the response, I actually decided to post it on the General Boxing Forum where I thought I would get more answers. Here is the link of the thread with a video that explained it was a myth :good http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=127364
i think its discipline and it gives you a mental edge saying i can restrain myself or its just an excuse for us boxers not being able to pull
I didn't watch the video that says it's a myth, but as long as you can avoid it the day of the fight and the night before; it'll be fine. I think NOT having sex for longer than that makes you focused on the fact that you're not having sex (instead of the fight). My 2 cents is that it's just a mental thing that ****s with too many fighters/trainers heads and they would just rather not take the chance on doing it than to sit down and analyze it.
i haerd some trainer saying fighter should be young fit and celibate old school trainers produced old school fighers who were tough i think we should lsten to them
Angelo Dundee says its not the act of sex that weakens the fighter, its the act of seducing the woman. (late nights out, booze)
On a side note, in the old days they believed so strongly in this they placed a rubber band around Primo Carnera's ***** so that if he had a wet dream, he would awaken from the pain of his erection before he could reach a climax.
they did a thing on sport science about the testosterone level with chris byrd and found out that having sex the night before your testosterone level will actually be higher than it was before having sex. byrd said he always has sex the night before and it doesn't bother him and it's like a ritual so he isn't nervous thinking about the fight. a few weeks later though i saw him getting knocked out on Friday Night Fights so...........lol i'm sure it can go either way. i wouldn't be up all night or nething but i doubt it is really going to drain u as long as u get enough sleep. i have heard bernard hopkins, as well as many others, say that throughout the whole training camp before the fight he doesn't have sex. who knows!!!! probably depends on the person
just a myth i think a fighter should do watever makes him mentally and emotionally happy before a fight. ive heard of one or two amateurs boys who were so nervous before a fight they decided to hav a quick tom hank in the toilet. and allegedly it worked like lowering there heart rate so they could control ther breathing. lol dont know if its true or not but does sound like it could work
It´s just a myth. I also saw the chris byrd documentary and he actually was stronger the day after. Never had any problem with it. It´s another thing doing it minutes before the fight. That would be pretty stupid. The Predator
Nah no way should opponents be allowed to have sex with each other before they fight. Not even in MMA.
