    Ok I have a question.

Ok, heres the thing. I always hear that you should try to ignore sex/jacking off when your training.

    Why?

    Do you ever hear this?

Another recent moment when I heard this is when Wlad Klitschko was on Conan O Brien. Conan said that is it true you should refrain from sex when your training for a big fight? And Wlad I think said yes and explained some other things.

Is this true? If so, why? There must be a reason right?

I believe this thread was done before a couple months back, however it was deleted for some reason I think.

I was told by 2 of my former 3 trainers, not to masturbate/have sex, the same day of the fight, and if you can go a week, all the better. My trainer told me that it cause you cramps if done right before your fight, it also can drain you of that little bit of energy you might need at the end of a long fight. A older boxer at my gym told me to hold it back as long as you can, I asked him why, he said it will give you more of animal instinct in the ring.

The wierd thing is, I found that holding back for 5-7 days, did help my performance slightly in the weight room and in the ring, I know it sounds wierd, but give it a shot, I didnt believe it either at first, but I felt it made a difference for me, though it could of been more mental than physical.

No problem, I'm not promising you, you will have the animal instinct of Tyson in the ring, but you will probably see a slight increase in your energy level and to extent, a stronger animal instinct in the ring.:good

I'll buy it, to a point.

Personally, if I don't get any I'm way more cranky. If it makes me more aggressive in the ring, all the better.

However, if that's not your style i suppose the relaxing effects would help you calm down tho too. It could go both ways i guess.

I think it was on sports science the other night. I didn't see it but my coach said he did, he didn't go in to detail but he said they proved that it doesn't hurt. I thought I read somewhere that it increases your testosterone levels and may actually help. Of course doing something that will wear you out or make you tired before a fight isn't a good idea but just during the regular training days and all, I don't see the problem.

Your right, I was doing some reading about it. Your testosterone level increases when you dont masturbate or ingage in a sexual activity, or in other words, holding back your orgasm, but for most people the gain in testosterone levels off around the 7th- day mark. I think it helps personally, but everyones different.

I don't think it's the actual sex that the rumor was born out of. I think it has more to do with motivation and distraction. Most people are less motived to work out and train hard if they are spending a lot of time with their girlfriend or boyfriend. The last thing you want to do on a Saturday morning when you are snuggled up with your girlfriend is get out of bed and go run.

Thats also a good point, that women can distract you from your regimen, though I still believe holding back from sexual activity, a week leading up to your fight, can give you a slight edge in the ring, it seemed to help me.:yep

You don't get any anyway, so that's where your pessimism on the subject arises.

    HA!
    And again - Ha!
