Nate didn't make weight either... I mean at least I'd be silent when these Guzman related news are coming out. Had Team Funeka pulled the plug not risking a Corrales-Castillo II, would you still make this thread?
Not even close to the same thing. GUZMAN was the one overweight, Nate said "who cares, lets fight anyways", and Guzman said "no thanks". Funeka on the other hand having made weight, would have been well within his rights to not fight Nate over the weight, but instead he did the same thing that Nate did and said "screw the weight, lets do this". MEN fight, WOMEN pull out.
Corrales didn't pull out in the 2nd Castillo fight, and got KO'd easily. So you just can't make an excuse how Nate didn't have an unfair advantage coming into the fight, not being badly dehydrated unlike his opponent. Now Corrales womened out from the 3rd Castillo fight. Is Chico a *****? And not to mention that Castillo was fined and suspended because of the farce, regardless the fight went on or not. Maybe Guzman deserves a lot of ****. But after all the talk and from Nate and not making weight (also being lucky that Funeka took the fight under the same circumstances Correles got KOd, and no suspention) you guys should be the last ones to open these malevolent threads.
You keep comparing this to Corrales-Castillo, but its totally different. NOBODY would have blamed Corrales (or Funeka) for opting not to fight the heavier guy. What GUZMAN did would have been the equivilent of CASTILLO pulling out of the 2nd Corrales fight, even after Diego said "lets do it".
Here are the IBF top 8 Ali Funeka, NOT RATED, Juan Diaz, Fernando Angulo, Julio Diaz, Anthony Peterson, Joan Guzman, Zahir Raheem Funeka's out since he already fought for it and lost, Diaz just came off a match Angulo is open, Julio Diaz is fighting Casamayor, Peterson is fighting Jesus Chavez and Guzman's out so Raheem/Angulo is the top possabliliy so far.
I understand this, but in both cases, the whole situation started when the fighter failed to make weight. Guzman, as Castillo, was suspended and fined for that. Whether the opponent is brave enough to enter the danger zone fighting a light welterweight, doesn't really change the lack of professionalism of Guzman or Campbell. What makes the difference, and I still can't believe that this happened, is Team Guzman making a public apology, and you guys making this public thread. :-(
An apology (from his publicist) and $1.50 wont even get you on the bus. Pay Nate the $400k he lost, and THEN all is forgiven. lol not to mention the glaring differences in why they didnt make weight. Guzman missed it because he went into camp at close to 180. Nate missed it because his body at 36 years old simply wouldnt drop the last 2.5 pounds. And not to mention their actions the last 2 days before the fights. Nate spent hour after hour in the steam room, killing himself in an attempt to make weight. Guzman watched tv in his room at the Beau Rivage.
If Team Funeka said 'we won't risk fighting a guy weighed in at LWW, putting us in danger caused by the other guy's lack of professionalism' who pays them? The only difference is Guzman not willing, while Campbell is willing to fight with an unfair advantage. And that Team Guzman at least made it clear they are terribly sorry for the situation they created, and you making this thread making Nate look like a malevolent guy. Do you represent the whole Campbell Team's opinion, or just yours?
I'd also add that Funeka might've lost more than a paycheck with losing to a LWW Campbell to get the paycheck. Luckily for him, he wasn't KO'd like Corrales was, but as close as the fight turned out, we can't stop thinking if Funeka was fighting a drained, LW Campbell, he now would be the unified LW champion of the world. Now tell me you guys are saints and have the right make threads like this.
If I burn down your house, and the insurance wont pay, is "oops, sorry" going to be good enough? I think not.......
