Didn't George Foreman later admit he was scared to death of Joe Frazier? That might have been after the fact, being a good sport, patronizing though.

Foreman admitted to being afraid of Frazier and hoping someone else would beat him, but that didn't stop Foreman from getting in the ring with him.

    Scared, one I can mention.

I don't think Micahel Spinks really wanted to be there against Tyson that night.

Ok i agree somewhat with the OP, you dont get to the top as a professional boxer by being a ***** that's gets scared easily. Must professional boxers have over 50amateur fights and a bunch more in the pros fighting at the top level.. and to make it there they had to have some confidence in their abilities and were willing to get into the ring and duck it out with another guy.. so yes i'll give pro boxers their props.. but at the same time once you make it to the top.. you're fighting other guys with the same abilities and maybe more than yours... so yes boxers do get scare and nervous before fights when they doubt their abilities a little... look at DLH vs tito.. he was willing to fight and trade with every opponent he had faced to that point but when it came to tito he ran like a *****.. in trinidad DLH saw his match and he knew before hand that he couldnt beat him so he changed his strategic..

    :hat

Yep, definitely interesting when you consider what a fearsome guy Foreman was in his prime.

Of course top level fighters are scared going into the ring at time you'd have to be stupid not to be . If your Floyd Mayweather going into the ring against Pacquaio or say Abraham its got to be in the back of your mind that if this guy catches me with the right shot i could be killed or seriously injured. The difference is that top fighters feed of that and develop a strategy to avoid that but i bet they're still very relieved if their able to walk out the ring after getting in with guys like that

All fighters have some fear after all they are human. Its how you use it. George Foreman did say he was scared of Frazier look how he used that fear for him.

Tyson in his documentary stated he was "scared to death" as he walked into the ring every fight but once he stepped into the ring he'd just bite down on his mouthguard and say lets do this.

They have fear, but the experienced, capable pros recognize it and use it, they don't succumb to it. Tyson was kind of an exception with the way he was just ripping guy's heads off, he didn't seem human. Pac probably has the same effect on guys, but it's not like when you were scared of the neighborhood bully when you were a kid and hid in the closet. They know it's part of the job, they've felt it before, they just acknowledge it and move on with what they have to do, if they acknowledge it at all. They're trying to get paid, and fear of getting their ass whipped isn't part of the equation except as a factor in the risk/reward of the fight.

in general, it's not really "scared to fight____" or "scared of ass whooping".
it's more of "high risk low reward"/"this way is more safer than this"/"i want to fight him but my team advises me not to"/"promoter is an *******"/"i don't want to risk my 0 or winning streak", etc.

Every fighter is, and should be scared. Fear isn't something to be ashamed of, or to conquer. It is an intrinsic biological process, something ingrained in your own survival. Most human beings fighting in a competition that is potentially deadly, in front of crowds of spectators is going to experience fear. You can call it nervousness, you can call it jitters, but that's what it is. The difference is that the best fighters make their fear their own, they use it to fuel their boxing.
