No Tournament: Jacare Souza will fight Tim Kennedy for the vacant Strikeforce Middlew

    Strikeforce have officially confirmed that the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza will square off against the Green Beret Tim Kennedy at Strikeforce: Houstorn, for the title vacated by Jake Shields. The announcement ends rumors about a possible 8-man tournament for the Strikeforce Middleweight title, possibly indicated that the promotion failed to find 8 fighters who can commit fighting as Middleweights.

    Strikeforce: Houstorn will take place at the famous Toyota Center on August 21st, with fighters like Sergei Kharitonov, Antonio Silva, KJ Noons and (possibly) Erin Toughill on the card. The night will be headlined by a Light Heavyweight Title fight between King Mo and Rafael Cavalcante.

    Light Heavyweight Championship bout: Muhammed Lawal (c) vs. Rafael Cavalcante
    Middleweight Championship bout: Tim Kennedy vs. Ronaldo Souza

    Lightweight bout: KJ Noons vs. Jorge Gurgel

    Jacare is as good a champ as any. Perhaps better than Shields. With Henderson, maybe Mousasi, Le, Lindland, Smith, Diaz, Lawler, Miller and others to face in defences then I think the SF 185 division is as healthy as can be.

    I agree they have a good division there and Jacare would be as good a champ as any.

    As for the card though I don't see how this will sell well. King Mo is not a big enough draw to be main event in an arena as big as the Toyota Center, and it doesn't help that his opponent is not known at all by casual fans. Decent card for hardcore fans, but for the casuals this won't do well. They need a big name thrown on there.

    With Miller and Lindland on his record and 10 wins out of 12 coming via subs I think an equal rival to Silva could be built out of Jacare. Maybe a rematch with Mousasi and some ko's to show he is more well rounded fighter now. The guy has made BJJ skills and I think his stand up is getting more dangerous.

    A few more name wins and definitely, Strikeforce could have a legitimate star. I doubt Mousasi would move down, but theres Hendo, Le etc to fight. He shouldn't have a shortage of fights for a while.

    I disagree with the need for some KOs though. The last thing he needs to do is think he is a good striker and risk getting KOed by a better striker. It's an unnecessary risk. He should stick to his bread and butter and that's taking people down and leaving with one of their limbs. I'm not saying he shouldn't improve his striking, being rounded is a must, but he shouldn't start going for KOs on people he can easily submit. Some top guys fall into this trap and end up losing fights when they perhaps shouldn't.
