Marquez can counter all day but what good is it if he CAN'T hurt a young lion like Rios that WON'T stop coming??

I just don't see him hurting Rios at all on the other hand I do see Rios hurting Marquez more then once.:deal

I think people are drunk off Rios' latest win. I'm a fan of his but people tend to forget Antillon has been KO'd by Acosta whom Rios beat recently. Rios' pressure will be tough for JMM to handle but I think Marquez's accurate body shots will take some steam off Rios' hands and possibly set him up to be knocked out. Acosta hurt Rios with some fine body shots if I remember correctly. Now of course if JMM gets starched by Pac and then goes on to fight Rios, I don't give JMM much of a chance because obviously Marquez would be damaged goods going into the Rios fight. But if they fought 4 or 5 months from now I wouldn't call it a landslide win for Rios.

But it's not just a recent win. Nobody's even gone the distance with this guy since like 2008. He's clearly compiled a great streak and is a legit threat.

**** me I forgot to factor the Body shots.... JMM has huge under rated body work it is what gave him the TKO wins over Diaz and Kats... What made his power much more stronger.

The body work from JMM would be the game changer as was in Diaz and Kats, taking the steam off their punches, and tiring them out.. all while JMM is countering that ass all night with sharp hard counters...

JMM TKO!R Round 9 in a good war.

I'd favor Marquez over Rios, but would pick Rios to TKO Soto, who has been pretty average since moving to 135.

For the record, I love JMM and if we are talking primes...yeah I would give JMM the edge, but dawg JMM is getting old as **** and Rios is just entering his athletic prime. It's not a matter of Rios being better than JMM, he's just physically on a different level as it stands today. Marquez is a fighters fighter and has earned/deserves the respect of any respectable boxing fan, that being said I don't thing JMM could hold the kid back and eventually he gets to him and stops him. If you think about the first Juan Diaz/JMM fight (a God Damn awesome fight BTW), imagine if Diaz had the power that Rios does...It would be a great fight, but I think Rios would stop him late, even though I believe JMM to be the better fighter and obviously far more accomplished.

Marquez breaks him down. Simply too big a gulf in class, precision, skill.

Wow, some posters really like Rios.....though this is the general forum where people tend to have short memories, thats suprising to me.......

I view Rios as being the equivalent of Arturo Gatti, and there is absolutely no damn way Arturo Gatti at any point in his career beats the current version of JMM, much less a prime one......

Doc you hit it on the head, when you said you forgot to factor in the body shots. If I remember correctly Rios was getting hurt to the body by Acosta.

Marquez as we all know is a master as going both down to the body, then up to the head.

No :nono I think hes already better than Gati ever was, similar power but better defense and his combonations much better.. YOu talk as if Rios is just throwing Haymakers oot there.,.. ID compare more to a Jose L Castillo..Obvioulsy not as experienced but i think he hits harder, and if his career is handld right and he stays on the right track he will be better. .. I did forgot about the body too.. I heard RIos was dropped an hurt bad by a body shot a couple years ago vs some no name...

You say you dont think hell improve much? You say hes flawed, but i think he is one of those once in a blue moon fighters that against better when tagged or in a war (like HOlyfield)... But i also think hes got the skills to fight smart and break an opponent down, withotu taking one to give one... They type that even when faced with a boxer, will adjust and break him down....

I think Garcia will make him better.. Garcia had some excelent boxing skills when fighting disciplined... But he tended to slug when he shouldnt and against guys that could punch.. ANd not a good idea when your blessed with a shaky chin.. Was beating Corrales till he got brave and got tagged... Whern Boxing prime casamyayor he was matching the master boxxer, then got rrigger happy and kod.... Pitching a shut out over Tacke and got nailed.

DIfrerence iA Rios hits harder and has the much better chin... All those Oxnard boys have now have been schooled well and can flash boxing skills when they have too they justlwould rather brawl.... Vargas(averageChin),Garcai(shaky) got like that alot, but pfp neither as durable as Rios.,, He will be one of the elite fighters in boxing in the near future .IF Garcia cues in on sharpening his defense, and put the fininshing touches on Rios boxing skills. ,, ...

. Mikey too he has those same skills but got hit early alot in his last fight(chin ok so far.). Exciting now but not a good idea against Gamboa or Gonzalez,
    ,..

I aint got nothin against Rios, Hes an excellent young banger but Marquez? Naw, he aint ready for that kind of skill level. Ask the baby bull or Kasidas. Marquez is a hardened professional and he dont have no mercy. Rios could probably hang for a while but Marquezs game is about more than hangin and bangin.
