Bottom line is we have seen the fab 4 lose and fight at 100% but we have never seen Floyd fight out of third gear. I wouldnt write him off so easily, Floyd in his prime didnt pot shot all night. He hit hard and threw lightning combinations. Yes Castillio gave him a tough fight but he injured his hand then immediatly rematched him and shut him out.Floyd is no longer prime he is nearing 40,So cotto won 3 or 4 rounds?!! Duran was KO'd in 2 by Hearns, does that make him ****?!! Hearns was KO'd in 3 by Hagler and Leonard was beaten pretty handily in the first Duran fight.Hearns was also viciously knocked out by Barkley and had stamina issues, lets not forget all this when comparing fighters. Leonard was also known to cherry pick and Durans lifestyle out of the ring was mental. Floyd is probably the best defensive fighter of all time, can fight 15 rounds if needed and can adapt to anything. The way people write him off is crazy. Im a huge Duran fan, he is probably my favorite fighter along with Naz but i cant see him beating Floyd. Hagler is too big so im not going to compare him and i think Leonard would beat him (Floyd). Yes Hearns hit hard but do you really think he would constantly land those bombs on Floyd until Floyd just crumbled, maybe he would constantly be made to miss and Floyd would work him on the inside, attacking his body with that straight right he used to constantly throw (to the body). All hypothetical of course!!!
I am a huge fan of Mayweathers ability, but there is no way he has either the physical strength, the punch power or the stamina required to keep Duran off him at either 135, or 147. At his peak he made everyone fight every second of every round. That is why he stops FMJ anywhere from the 8th to the 11th round. With Mayweather showing incredible courage but bemused as to where this whirling dervish came from.
I have prime Durant (Durant-Leonard 1) beating Mayweather decisively. I actually don't believe that Mayweather could win against Leonard or Hearns with his defence first style.
Floyd never quit. Duran did. Plus Floyd in his prime was packing power and ridiculous speed. This Floyd is nothing compared to his prime.
Theres not a fighter in boxign history 147 and down with the exception of SRR and Hearns that have the ability to destroy PBF.:deal You're a fcuking fool if you think Duran would destroy arguably the best defensive fighter in the history of the sport. Especially since Duran struggled against lesser fighters and guys with good movement defense and speed. If anything PBF would outbox Duran to a UD win.:deal
Pea whitaker is a stylistic nightmare for Duran and would make Duran quit faster than he did against SRL:deal You don't know **** about the sport log off dumbass.
So because Cotto gave him trouble even though Mayweather won a UD that Duran automatically beats Mayweather? Mayweather can't brawl like Leonard lol. When does brawling has anything to do with winning a fight? All Mayweather has to do is do what he does best and he would route Duran to UD. Hating on Mayweather and his ability as a fighter is so plain stupid is not even funny since the guy is the most complete fighter that ever laced on gloves. The guy is condition to go 15 rounds with ease, fast, smart, has greate defense, footwork, ring generalship and you think Duran he compete with that? Did you watch the second Leonard fight? I pretty sure Mayweather can do the same thing! Also are we talking about the same guy who quit on his stool :deal
Stop judging Duran by the 2nd Leonard fight when you obviously no zip about the history. Plain stupid and all to easy to pick out one aberation in a man's career & use that as a one size fits all template. SRL was castigated by the media after that fight for his lack of intestinal fortitude, that fight hung around SRL's neck like an albatrosss & it was only after he toppled Hearns that he won the majority of doubters over. That 2nd fight in new Orleans showed nothing, Leonard ran away & did nothing & arrogant Duran did even less. It stuck the house out. It was no great victory for SRL & he's said so. The scoring was close, you've proberbly only ever seen the windmill bolo punch in the 7th round & SRL sticking his tongue out. You yap on about Mayweather easily lasting 15 rounds against Duran!! Have you ever seen Duarn/DeJesus 3, NO! I bet you hav'nt. Even Angello Dundee said duran's one of the most complete BOXERS in history. Duran has handled them ALL in his prime, you make out Mayweather to be some titan of the ring, no way is this man the most complete fighter, this mayweather is a man who is scared shitless to get into the ring with a midgit as he ai'nt sure he could beat him. A modern day HBO creation, Mayweather has carefully manouvered himself into the HBO $$$ trough & good luck to him! As per usual when you *****'s get yer panties all tied up you scream "It's HATE" It ain't hate, it's just the truth, I've no hate for mayweather or any other boxer. There's only one boxer at 135 that's gonna give Roberto a run for his money & that is Pernell Whitaker, who it's streets ahead of Floyd in all departments & when Pernell was asked at the BHOF induction about his chances against Duran he just laughed & said please! Don't wish that on me! Duran was not a brawler! You don't dominate a decade unless you have the requiered fistic nous to do so & in a time when there were only 2 governing bodies with each top 10 ram jammed with very hungry contenders. Today anyone can be a multititleist as long as you cherry pick & tip toe/retire/vacation yer way past the most dangerous challenges. Did Floyd strive for greatness..... NO NO NO, he's in the cheque cashing bizzness, legacy don't pay the bills! You heard that before somewhere You all recken Floyd would beat this or that, you believe it, but Floyd sure don't! Just mention Manny Pacquiao & Floyd freezes up. Do you really think that the Floyd from that hatton fight is gonna somehow keep someone like the Duran that brutalized SRL off him & somehow potshot/tie-up and win Stick to MMA, you are just another Hatton fan left truamatised after he lost to Floyd and to you that must make Floyd the greatest seeing he beat that undisputed unbeaten WBU champ.
I think this would be a very close matchup, stylistically it's one of my favorite hypothetical matchups at LW. Duran was a very underrated boxer on a technical level, I don't think he matches up with Floyd in that regard but he was still an exceptional boxer with above average defense. His head movement was terrific and also knew how to block shots away with his gloves. And I don't think people give Floyd his due credit with how strong he truly was at the lighter weights, and just as importantly, how active he was offensively. That guy could put brutal combinations together. That being said, he didn't possess the 1 punch KO power that Duran did but he could get guys out of their quickly through an aggregate of precise punches. Floyd's defense, handspeed, foot movement and technical ability were superior to Duran's in their primes whereas Duran had the clear cut power advantage. I call it even with their combination punching/offense in general. I'd favor Floyd in a razor-sharp close UD or SD. Extremely slick boxers with good footwork and handspeed could neutralize the great Duran. But Floyd would have to be at his all time best in this matchup. Floyd would have to be ready for the toughest fight of his life.
This has nothing to do with how the 2 would fare against each other in their respective primes. Benny leonard is ranked higher on all time P4P lists as well, but I'd favor Duran and Floyd over him. In fact I favor FLoyd over the great Alexis Arguello as well, and I'm sure most pundits have Alexis ranked in their top 20-25.
