Team Golovkin's excuse for the longest has been they haven't moved up because they want to win every title at middleweight. Fact is, nobody cares if he holds all 4 titles, the only thing that matters is lineal, ring, and respect that you are the best middleweight in the world. Once you achieve that status and recognition move on...nobody gives a rats azz about a fight with Billy Joe Saunders just cause he holds a trinket title!

Golovkin needs to move his azz up to 168 and stop being a *****!!! Cause now he fighting welterweights...come on man you getting ridiculous!

The fact that he’s fighting a welterweight is just a slap in the face to anyone who has defended Golovkin all this time. I mean here he is claiming to be this legit MW champ, and now he’s fighting Kell Brook. You can’t make this stuff up.

While the Actual Lineal Middleweight Champion, Saul Alvarez, is fighting a legit Light Middleweight Champ, the WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO MW Champ is defending those MW titles vs the IBF Welterweight Champion!

As a fan I’m not complaining at all. I think they both could be good fights, but Golovkin has been acting like he Man at Middleweight. I mean think about it, the winner of Alvarez Smith has more of a claim to be the Man at MW and they’re not even Middleweights !

No he doesn't, he needs to fight and beat all the top guys in the middleweight division first. Then move up
It's weird how the people who want to see him get beat the most have him already beating almost every challenger on the planet without fighting him lol
You guys are desperate for him to move up because his chances of losing are bigger.
I would love to see him fight Canelo, Saunders, Eubank, Jacobs among others. Why should he move up to suit these guys?

The actual MW champion did defend against a WW in Canelo.

    Both are **** fights.

Hypocrites all over this forum. You defended the Canelo fight which was a MW champion defending against a WW contender.

Now we have a MW titlist defending against a WW titlist.

The winner of Alvarez v Smith has no claim as they aren't fighting in the MW division.

They won't be content with him moving up to 168lbs, they will ask 175lbs next. There is really nothing good at SMW. All the names there are not even elite. They will say he needs to move to LHW where you have Stevenson, Ward, Kovalev. That is how they will see his chances of losing higher and farther away from his hero, Canelo, whom they are content to stay at MW, a division they so much criticize for having bums.

The winner has a CLAIM because the Winner Will be the Lineal Middleweight Champ. They aren’t fighting in the Margin of Middleweight but as you know anything below 160 is technically Middleweight.

The fact is that Alvarez is the Lineal Middleweight Champ. (He Beat Cotto, who beat Martinez) If somebody beats Alvarez, as long as it’s below the MW limit, then naturally he would become the Lineal Middleweight Champ.

Historically, the Lineal Champ is known as the Man of the Division, that’s what makes this scenario so humorous and entertaining. And for Golovkin to be challenging a welterweight, as opposed to a Middleweight, in his next fight, it only makes his CLAIM to be the Man At MW even weaker than it already was. Not only is he not the Lineal Champ, but he’s fighting a freakin Welterweight lmao.

Golovkin has no claim at all. It's not possible for it to get weaker.

If Canelo loses to Smith at LMW he's still MW champion, unless he leaves the division permanently.

An example is when Dawson lost to Ward or when Armstrong lost to Ambers.

That’s a good point, the difference being that Dawson still held the LHW belt, when he went down to fight Ward, while Canelo dropped the MW belt. This is part of why I objected to the WBC handing over belt to GG when Canelo vacated it. It should have been left vacant in my opinion until Canelo defended it again. Being handed a belt like that doesn’t make someone a Lineal Champ. A Lineal Champ by its very definition is about “who beats who”, “who beats who”, etc.

That’s true that Ward wasn’t considered the LHW Champ when he beat Dawson, though technically he could have been since it was below the LHW limit and he beat the Lineal LHW Champ. I think this is a grey area, though I agree it should be in the margin of Middleweight. I think one could certainly make the argument that Ward beating Dawson made him the Lineal MW Champ, though I think Max Kellerman and certainly Stevenson would disagree. Now that we’re getting Ward vs Kovalev at LHW, I think the winner of that could certainly claim to be the Lineal LHW Champ.

My point though is that for a multitude of reasons, the winner of Smith vs Canelo in my view have more of a claim to being known as Lineal MW Champ than the winner of GG vs Brook. Until someone beats Canelo, Canelo is going to be continue to be known as the Lineal MW Champ. I think if Smith were to upset Canelo, then there will truly be even more of a debate over who the Lineal MW Champ is. Smith could say “I beat the Man who beat the Man who beat the Man at MW”.

This is a fascinating to me as far as who truly is the Lineal Champ both at MW and at LHW. Lets Hope that the winner of Ward Kovalev fights Stevenson and the winner of Smith Canelo fights the winner of Brook Golovkin so there is no doubt as to who the Lineal Champ is. :yep
