You don't drop a lineal championship. You either lose, retire or leave the division.

Smith beating Canelo has zero impact on the MW championship. Golovkin beating Brook has zero impact on the MW championship.

The only thing that can affect the MW championship is Canelo fighting in the MW division or leaving the MW division.

Yea I have to say I don't get his obsession with wanting to hold all the belts.

I see what you’re saying, I’m not sure I agree with you, but I see what you’re saying. Answer me this then : If Canelo were to not make weight for Smith. Lets say he comes in at 154.5 and can’t make 154. But the fight still happens anyway. Then Canelo would be “fighting in the Middleweight division”, right? Then without Smith’s title being on the line, would Smith vs Canelo be for the Lineal MW Championship?

I don’t think it matters what weight you come in at, as long as it’s below the limit of that division. Because in that case, technically Cotto weighed in below 154 when he fought Canelo, so then by your definition technically Cotto wasn’t fighting in the Middleweight Division that night.

But we all know Canelo in fact became the Lineal MW Champ when he beat Cotto. Unless you think Cotto is still the Lineal MW Champ?

The fight is a LMW, the MW championship is not on the line.

Canelo v Cotto was a fight at MW. The MW championship is on the line.

You should research boxing history, the sport has an incredible history.

For GGG and his fans all 4 belts is obviously more important than moving up, making history, and actually behaving like he is P4P....the hardest puncher in boxing they say he is....yet he wont move up in weight and test his punching power!

Yea I agree tbh. Everyone already knows he's the best middleweight. We know he would beat Saunders if they fought. People saying there is not much comp at 168? Perhaps not but then he it should be easy for him to become a 2 weight world champ shouldn't it?

Regarding the Brook fight I originally didn't mind it but have changed my mind. The governing bodies really need to step in with cases like this. I've not really much interest in Brook fighting GGG.
What point is he trying to prove? Khan proved its easy to be brave for a big payday. Brook is yet to prove he is the best welter the only way he does that is fighting and beating Thurman and Garcia. Plenty of big fights for Brook in his own division.

I'm a fan of GGG but the guy is like 34 now.

There are challenges and there are risk...Brook fighting Golovkin is clearly a challenge but its not a risk because if he loses nobody cares! He suppose to lose, he's an unproven welter fighting the "hardest puncher in boxing"

A real challenge and risk would be against his fellow welters, Thurman, Spence, Garcia, Porter, Khan....those are the wins and losses that matter! We will care if he wins or loses against one of these guys. We only hope he still has his senses after he fights G, the bar is set way low!! He might get credit just for going 3 rounds!

Brook is after a payday and a moral victory, as boxing fans we dont have concern for that, we want fights that matter!

BJs is an elite fighter. I would want to see him against GGG regardless of the belt.

BJS would beat any top guy at 154, you know those huge 154 lbers that hide at the easy wright by cutting huge amount of weight, to avoid the 160 lb boogeyman.

When you have 3 titles and only have beaten one champion and on top fo that you are 35 yo... well.... you know...

Those titles are worth.... nothing. Maybe one of them, the other two? meh!.

Yes there's so many big fights not getting made at welterweight. So frustrating. And I can't help but think Brook is fighting GGG purely just to one up Khan.

Would have much preferred to see Brook-Vargas and was actually looking forward to that fight. If Brook ends up getting beat up by GGG for 8 rounds who knows how that effects him going forward? Brook is a good fighter but he still has much to prove at welterweight.

Maybe none of the 168lbers want to fight GGG either? But in that case I would rather he fight anyone at middleweight

Unfortunately, the LMC Canela went back on his word and is refusing to fight GGG after one voluntary defense as they agreed.

Well, he hasn't won the lineal title, isn't recognized as the Ring champion, and he certainly doesn't have the respect here as the best middleweight. So by your dumbass logic, he doesn't need to move up yet..
