Nobody else thinks floyd made the fight seem closer than it really was?

    This.

Except for a few true exchanges, Floyd basically played it safe. I'm not saying it was a bad strategy, that's his business, but I found the fight fairly boring.

I think it was a mix of things.

Rounds 1-4 went back and forth, they were feeling each other out.

Cotto had momentum 5-8 and was getting into a good offense...which I'm sure Floyd wasn't expecting.

Round 6 Floyd completely gave away. I kept thinking he was setting a trap...but I think he was testing changes to see what might keep Cotto off him.

Later rounds Floyd made an adjustment and was able to keep the fight at a distance he was comfortable with and took the last few rounds.

I think he's thinking about his image to the people a little too much these days. He has something to prove. I know that Miguel Cotto could've been thoroughly dominated by Floyd and I would've preferred to see a beautiful boxing clinic where Floyd hardly even got touched. If I want to see toe to toe fighting with someone getting busted up, I'd watch a Pacquiao fight. I watch Floyd to marvel at his extreme boxing skill. I don't watch him to see him get touched up. Floyd needs to go back to doing what he normally does. He proved he can go toe to toe and win, now go back to boxing those mutha****as. We also have to keep in mind that Floyd was sick and we know that being sick can make you very weak.

Going toe to toe with Manny Pacquiao is not the way to beat him. Everyone knows that Pacquiao is a sucker for a pure boxer. If he faces him one day, that will be the key to victory. Outbox that guy. I don't think that he should play into the hands of the blood thirsty fight fans. There are plenty of people who a fans of the beautiful boxing he displays. He should not forget that.

  8. floyd got hit in the nose....it made it bloodied and blood came out of his nose

i dont think he purposely wanted to let shane hit him with two bombs ...one of which was a perfect temple shot........

but because floyd got a bloody nose it doesnt mean he didnt purposely try to make it for a fight......he just got caught there a few times...i dont think he was thinking "hell if i actually try to fight this guy i might get a bloody nose"....floyds not a *****....a bloody nose isnt going to stop him dead in his tracks...it comes with the territory

he made it a fight....im sure he wasnt thinking "maybe ill let cotto hit me in the nose and it will get bloody so the fans will love it...wwe style".....but he made a concious effort to make it a fight....so the fans could get what they want....the bloody nose just comes with it....he was confident hed still win fighting the kind of fight cotto wanted

Of course he did. There were times Floyd laid and stayed on the ropes when he didn't have to. I'm glad he did decide to please the crowd rather then out box Cotto for 12 rounds. Not only did it make the fight look good, but Cotto as well. Even though Cotto lost his title, his confidence should still be sky high, with what he was able to do to Floyd.

I doubt Floyd was rationally thinking "okay, im gonna make this fight closer to entertain the fans", but it was EVIDENT that he changed his tactics.

I thought he looked very good in the first 5 rounds when he was taking the fight to Cotto from the middle of the ring. He was hardly getting it and was landing some good shots on Cotto. Surprisingly he also through quite an array of punches.

It is pretty clear that he round 5/6 onwards he started to brawl with Cotto on the ropes. I'm not sure why he did it, maybe he was gassed out.

Had he fought the entire fight like he did the first 5 rounds (knowing Floyd's fitness that was probably possible) it would have been a masterful performance with a knockout. This way it was a great fight and a good mayweather performance.

i tried to tell anyone who would listen that this would be floyds toughest fight since castillo. u guys are in denial if u think floyd purposely went to war. cotto did things no one else has done before. he layed the blue print on how to beat floyd. he just didn't have the stamina to finish the job.
