Nobody has anything to say about those 3.3 million viewers for PBC?

    No one?

If this was GGG, Lomachencko, or [insert Soviet Jihadist here] there would be a big whoop.

Thurman and Porter did 3.3 million viewers and the entire card averaged 2.4 million. It's the highest rated boxing event of the year so far.:happy

If Haymon wants more of this he knows he has to step it up.

The **** you mean "jihadist" you dumb ass? You don't see us blowing ourselves up like the people your "great" american army bombed to ravage the countries for their natural resources.

I was even going to congratulate those two and say something positive until you ruined the thread.

    Competitive fights will do that.

The issue is when PBC put on bad one sided fights.

12/22/12 NBC Adamek vs Cunningham 4 million

Fights seem to be doing the kind of ratings on network television that they got when they were canceled in the early 90s.

6/29/91 ABC James Toney vs. Reggie Johnson 3,900,000
3/2/91 ABC Rid**** Bowe vs. Tyrell Biggs 5,200,000
9/22/90 NBC Tony Lopez vs Jorge Paez 3,630,900 viewers

They are double or triple what you normally get on HBO, Showtime, or Pay Per View,

11/2/13 HBO Gennady Golovkin vs Curtis Stevens 1.41 million
11/30/13 HBO Sergey Kovalev vs Ismayl Sillakh: 1.3 million
9/14/13 PPV Floyd Mayweather vs. Saúl Álvarez 2,200,000
6/22/13 SHO Adrien Broner vs Pauli Malignaggi, 1.3 million

but only half what they got in the 80s.

6/5/82 ABC Tim Witherspoon vs. Renaldo Snipes 7,579,500
6/11/82 ABC Larry Holmes vs. Gerry ****ey (replay) 11,654,500
10/17/82 NBC Livingstone Bramble vs. James Busceme 8,680,244
10/17/82 CBS James Broad vs. Donny Long 9,895,478

    Unless you're Mike Tyson:

12/16/95 FOX Mike Tyson vs Buster Mathis Jr. 43 million viewers

Happy for the fight doing decent numbers, but for free tv these numbers are still ridiculously low for a country as big as the US.
A comparable fight on free tv in Germany, Britain, Japan or any other decent boxing country in the world would be considered a massive flop if they only pulled 3.3M viewers, and that with significantly less population.

when you put on as many cards as haymon is not every card is going to feature these great paper matchup...even so...alot of als "one sided" fights actually turned out to be pretty good fights that suprised alot of people

smith/fonfara...wilder/duhaupus...stevenson/fonfara...just to name a few...there are many examples of this in haymons cards

If this was a GGG fight, you would have kept your mouth shut.

What did you think you were going to accomplish with this thread?

World class fighters in competitive match up on free TV deliver high ratings? Who knew it was that simple? Well everybody actually. It was a great fight and the type of fight the sport has been crying out for for the longest time.

If Haymon had been making these types of fights from the outset I don't think people would have any problem with what he's doing. In fact, I think many of critics would then applaud him.

Oh and the soviet jihadist comments by the OP is beyond ridiculous. I don't know why certain posters insist on being seen as total ****s every time they post.

ya....again...what promoter/manager with a stable can make every headlining fight a juicy matchup like say porter/Thurman...no one can....yer gonna get some paper mismatches

like ive said...even quite a few of haymons paper mismatches have turned out to be very entertaining fights.....

haymon is doing wel by the fans IMO
