Shavers hit hard but some of the comments above seem to be exaggerations. Many of these folks just say some **** after a fight or to please another fighter they personally like. Stuill some just want to say something funny. Ali was hit flush by Shavers many times and he didn't appear hurt. However he was undoubtedly hurt by Joe Frazier and Henry Cooper. Same with Holmes, who was dribbled around the ring by Tyson.
He lost to Ali He lost to Larry Holmes He lost to Randy Cobb He lost to James Tillis He lost to Ron Lyle He lost to Bob Stallings He lost to Gerry Quarry He lost to 7 other fighters. I would say he hit harder than most fighters. But to say he was the hardest hitter of all is just opinions .
It amazes me that idiots who never fought any of the fighters mentioned would question the statements and opinions of those fighters. There is no end to the idiocy on ESB.
Maybe :good But if Quarry was able to KO Shavers in the 1st, maybe Briggs would have too. Lot of fans were giving Briggs a shot at doin' that to Vitali right before their fight. They both hit hard I still think Big George Foreman hit the hardest :bbb:yep
When there's a general concensus of fighters picking the same guy as the hardest puncher they ever faced right or wrong it holds some weight.
Yeah I'm sure Briggs who was put on his ass by McCline and KTFO by Lewis and Wilson would've been able to take 12 rds of heavy shots from Shavers :nut
yeah, sometimes when i read the posts here, am reminded of the movie "missisippi burning" about a quote by william dafoe "why is there so much hatred here" not sure about the exact wordings but something to that effect..
do you really believe that? Briggs is just bigging up Klitschko. Lewis took out a BETTER VERSION of Briggs earlier then Vitali could have ever dreamed of doing. And he floored/hurt him multiple times. Foreman may be so but that was actually competitive
Exactly. I don't recall anyone contending that Vitali is the hardest one-punch KO artist of all time. :nut
years ago when i used to spar i would go out of my way to make the guy i just beat up feel good about himself.i would say how hard he punched and he was all heart and this and that etc. etc. guys that beat me up i would always down play there skills and power. i doubt vitali hit harder than lewis.vitali hits hard but he breaks you down over time. but what was obvious is briggs seemed to really like vitali.saying vitali hit harder than lewis was really saying how much a man he was to stand in there and take those shots from a monster like vitali.the statement that vitali hit harder than lewis and foreman was more about himself.just as holmes and lyle etc. had to say about shavers power.it's more about them than shavers. :thumbsup
Has anyone ever said that Vitali hits harder than Shavers? Do people even try to say he is the hardest one-hit puncher currently? I think his power would be right up there with the best atm, but he is probably edged by guys like Tua still. Vitali's high KO percentage is misleading if people think it supports him being a monster puncher. Noone should have it in their mind that he has historically significant one-punch power. There would probably be a dozen guys who are so clearly better that Vitali shouldn't even be in the discussion. However, if you wanted to talk about the best accumulation punchers in history, then he would probably be a relevant name.
