Four prospects, two matches, twenty rounds (divided in a way you're probably not thinking - eleven and nine).

Maure in the red trunks (nickname is "Preciso"), Rentería black.

    Round 1

Rentería is sticking a high jab in Maure's face and looping rights into the body. Maure is tossing light hooks on the backfoot and leaning in to contain Rentería's forearms with his own laid atop, tying up and burying his forehead into Rentería's chest. Rentería busts free and insists on trading long straight hard blows.

    10-9 Rentería

    Round 2

Rentería is lumping his jab into Maure's face, singles & doubles, forcing him to back up in straight lines and then walloping him with long, spiteful uppercuts. Maure not getting his respect with his light lead left upper-hooks delivered flimsily while on the run. Soft jabs and wide looping rights into the shoulder by Maure, also not getting the job done. More clinching than effective punching by the youngster, getting tooled over by the veteran.

    10-9 Rentería

    20-18 Rentería

I think we are seeing a 4-0 prospect who bit off more than he is ready to chew in 13-4-1 Rentería, upset brewing here unless there's a plan B or a robbery.

    Round 3

Rentería is getting held & wrestled by the increasingly fragile-looking Maure. Every time he rallies with a surge of punching, Rentería is able to herd Maure into the corner and do a number on him. The only way for Maure to find respite is by clinching. None of his punches are getting Rentería's attention.

    10-9 Rentería

    30-27 Rentería

    Round 4

Maure is starting to stand his ground now, planting his feet and spiraling himself into the ceiling with uppercuts. Very game, but Rentería is able to easily overpower him with combos to body and head, doubling Maure over after just two or three connects and not letting up. Rentería dominating. Ref having a close look. Maure clinching and doing just enough of his own punching (or rather flapping at Rentería's sides in the clinch) to prevent a stoppage. Maure hanging on and getting dragged around the ring as Rentería shrugs and carries him, shaking him free and then ripping the body again.

    10-9 Rentería, nearly 10-8

    40-36 Rentería

Worth noting two of Rentería's losses were by MD, and the stoppage was to a 12-0 (10) guy that went on to recently defeat former world titlist Carlos Molina...

    Round 5

BIG left hook answering the bell from Rentería, stepping right up to Maure, and lifting him off the ground and down on all fours, and Maure doesn't want to get up, that sucked all the wind from him!

    KO5!!!

That was tremendously bad-ass when you consider that Rentería probably wasn't brought in to do anything but give Maure some rounds and lose.

Rentería has a baby crooked in his arm standing in the ring doing his victory interview. Weird looking baby. I mean, cute little bundle of joy, miracle of life that all babies are...but, still. Weird looking baby. The proportions aren't right. The eyes are creeping me out. Also I'm drunk.

Ah, poop. Turns out Matellon vs. Cano was the co-feature, not the main event for some reason...even though it was scheduled to be an eleven-rounder while Maure vs. Rentería was nine. It already transpired, and the broadcast on TV Max is over. (which I found out after sitting through a very confusing several-minute-long native Panamanian agriculturalist community fruit-balanced-on-everybody's-heads dance and singalong thing...)

Actually that makes sense now, upon digging beneath the surface. In the light flyweight match they were both "foreigners". Matellon, who captured the WBA Fedelatin 108lb title by UD, is Cuban-born and just lives in Panama, while the previously unbeaten Cano is a Venezuelan.

In the fight we just witnessed, it was two native-born Panamanians. Don't ever underestimate the power of nationalism to override rationality. :) We see this in boxing cards all over the globe.

I guess...this concludes all live boxing this evening. I should probably go to bed or something. :eyepop:
