Jon Fernández was supposed to be on this card against Fatiou Fassinou but apparently Fassinou was determined yesterday to have contracted herpes so they canceled it. (too late, I guess, to find a sub opponent for Jonfer)

 

Noel Murphy vs. Mikkel LesPierre, 10 rounds @ welterweight

 

Round 1

LesPierre is taking the lead against his fellow southpaw, drilling down with a busy right jab between the eyes, painting the forehead when Murphy tucks himself chin to nose behind the outer thumbs and tops of his gloves. Murphy is shooting his own right jab up at LesPierre's throat or straight into his chest but getting blocked or spraying harmlessly against forearm. Murphy rotates in with some right hooks, spinning into the punch but without his feet set firmly. LesPierre is able to roll with them and make Murphy's body shots skid loosely off to one side off his flanks. LesPierre digs a few nice right hooks of his own bending to his right.

Round 2

LesPierre is holding up a high guard, elbows to nipples, letting Murphy take free whacks at his body or perhaps shied by the overhands Murphy is now lawn-sprinkling whenever LesPierre jabs in multiples. LesPierre now rolling in the pocket and countering with uppercuts and slashing hooks at shoulder-height across the face of Murphy, but Murphy is parrying and whacking the body with the heavy right hook. Murphy now feinting with clattering hook combos up top, sloppy but just diversions, getting LesPierre to cover up and raise his arms, exposing the belly, allowing Murphy to slam home the RH.

Eesh, both already gassed. Combined record of 30-0-1, shouldn't already be huffing and puffing after six minutes of moderate action..

 

Round 3

LesPierre is dipping his entire body, straightened at the spine and tilted forward like a rudder, left and right, tapping Murphy on either hip with short double-hooks. LesPierre jabs from mid-range above the head of Murphy and quickly ties up when Murphy submarines in, charging low and coming up with a flurrying burst in LesPierre's chest. Murohy popping off combos at the body, not quite reaching, just glancing - LesPierre countering with a giant scything right hook but also not landing cleanly, wrist wrapping around the back of Murphy's neck. Murphy lunging with the left after keeping a triple or quadruple light fluttering right jab in LesPierre's face. Wide can-opener right hook by LesPierre, easily caught on the back of the left arm by Murphy.

Round 4

LesPierre is flipping the backhanded jab off its holster at his right hip into Murphy's breadbasket. Murphy is attacking in straight lines with bubble-blower jabs and chicken-winging body shots when he gets inside, but LesPierre covering up, forearms pinned together, leaning his tall frame back. LesPierre starting to get cute, sidestepping and throwing flush right hooks on the body while turning Murphy on the pivot.

Round 5

LesPierre is forcing the long jab at full extension, walking Murphy down. Murphy is sliding his feet backward and popping light line-drive 1-2s up at the face, tugging on their leash just a couple of inches from target. LesPierre is shooting Murphy's jab down in mid-air with his own and throwing meaty right hooks on the ribs. Murphy is hopping into check hooks throwing desperate flurries, and tying up frequently. LesPierre is just stripping his gloves off and shoving Murphy bodily across the ring to resume the long-jabbing pressure.
