I think mcvey's criticism fair. Quarless lost twice to Hughroy Currie in British title eliminators, and I think it would be hard to argue that Currie was groomed to being a star.

I remember him well. A fight between Noel and Frank Bruno was highly touted at one point. Would have been an easy victory for Bruno,imo.
I agree Quarless was entertaining but not in Bruno or Mason's class a prime Gardner would have beaten him imo.
Wasn't Sykes the subject of a late 1980s TV documentary (Panorama episode perhaps? Or something similar) .... about his violent life and his life in prison ? Apologies if I have the wrong man.
