Khan is due to go over to the States later this year and I'm interested to know the opinions of the non brits.
Even Frank Warren realizes that he has some big flaws and that's why he's protecting him more than anyone else. Khan will be stopped by any top lightweight. His chin is horrible and his defense isn't good enough to protect it effectively. Khan should just continue making money on the British level while he's very young, then in a year or two step up and try to go for a title.. his best option is to wait until Diaz moves to 140 and maybe he could grab a paper title when lightweight is a mess.
'He is awesome and a future world champ'. If not in a few months then in a few years. Who made that poll anyway? Why can't the average non-British boxing fan vote for "future P4P superstar" or something like that? For myself, it's just a 'future world champion' anyway but c'mon, that's the MINIMUM in Khan not the MAXIMUM.
Huki, Amir Khan had some bouts since the last one you saw (Limond). You should watch Khan vs. (I know shot) Earl and the very tough (I know, little and feather-fisted) St. Clair.... What is your opinion on Khan's defense in those two fights?
Thats utter garbage. Khan is NOT being protected. He just fought St Clair who admitedly was a former world champ at 130 but the fight was a shut out.St Clair has had over 40 plus fights. That was Khans 16th bout. His also coming off an excellent 1st round KO of domestic veteran Graham Earl whom he overwhelmed in seconds. He got shook up vs Willie Limmond but went onto to retire him in a brutal encounter. Your asperations that his chin is horrible is just absolute trash. Its certainly not granite but it hardly qualifies as horrible. His defense is currently leaky and could be tighter but his only had 16 fights. Theres no need to judge him by such high standards. Khan i doubt will be a major star but the kid is certainly talented and will make some noise at 35 and possiby 140.
The Earl fight is not worth mentioning because it was a blowout of an overrated British-based fighter (because of the Katsidis fight). I watched the entire St. Clair fight and it wasn't anything special. The only thing that I saw new from Amir Khan was that his stamina is actually good along with his workrate over 12. But it wasn't a tough fight for him, so his stamina wasn't truly tested. St. Clair's style was perfect for him and it seemed like he just wanted to wait until the late rounds for Khan to get tired, then catch him and hopefully stop him, but it didn't happen. If he was a bigger puncher, it would have happened, but since Warren will never put him in with a puncher we won't see it for a while. St. Clair was way past his best and wasn't fighting to win, he was relying on getting lucky with his weak punches late in the fight and it wasn't a horrible plan, but it obviously didn't work. Khan's defense wasn't impressive in his last fight. The few hard punches that St. Clair threw and connected would have stopped Khan if he was a harder puncher. Khan's defense is still very leaky and he's open to counter punches. His reflexes aren't at the elite level so he will not be able to avoid the punches of a good counter-puncher or any solid, hard punching B level fighter. Khan is not being protected? I'll stop reading there.
Just waiting for the day that Juan Diaz makes him his *****....He will get owned just like his hero Hamed got owned...So I hope he does well only so I can witness his demise at the hand of a true warrior:fire
British media hype machine again doing a great job (Hamed...Bruno...Hatton). Good fighter, but not great. May achieve two division titles, but no more. Defense and chin suspect...great speed and power. I like his reach for his weight. Again though, built up to be something he's not, and likely to suffer a humbling loss before winning first world title. Not a bum, but not an ATG like Warren want's (and tries) to make his public believe. Sadly, they seem incapable of viewing his strengths and weaknesses objectively...again.
I notice that you didn't include Joe Calzaghe in that little list, or Lennox Lewis. Is that because they have dominated their divisions? Amir Khan is only just 21. You can say he's protected but hey, aren't the Peterson brothers and Andre Berto in the same boat?
Peterson brothers yes...Andre Berto NO...Berto right now is the mandatory for WBC and IBF....worlds away from the Peterson brothers and Kahn
I'll shoot straight with ya. Khan has a serious future ahead of him. Belt holder obviously. Legitimate champion in atleast one division...probably. Pfp player? Achievable but not gauranteed, thats where we need to wait and see. I don't get where this being protected stuff is coming from. He has fought some good fighters for a kid at this stage. Progessing very nicely. Now if you want to say he is being protected from punchers. Now there you might have something. I see a lot of light punching opposition in front of Khan. Solid fighters but a bit light in the gloves. Does that mean he has a weak chin? I don't know, but that is my current biggest concern. How durable is he? As a whole Khan seems to be a prospect with a serious future. If you can even call him a prospect at this point.
