decided to make this thread just too see how do people view him should he be an atg imo he should most tyson fans like me would agree but i just wanted to get the opinions of people that aren't fans of him and how do they rate his place in heavyweight history ps no hating mother****ers just an opinion :good
I would think he would have to be considered an ATG. Tyson's name is forever linked to boxing. Even to a non-fight fan, of almost any age, they know who the man is. You dont get that sort of popularity without being great at what you do. Henry Ford, Bill Gates, Wayne Gretzky.... and he wasnt pretty like an Anna Kournikova, so that's obviously not what made him huge. People love to criticize the man, saying he was exposed by anyone who stood up to him, who weren't afraid of him, etc. But at the end of the day, we still have these discussions, almost 20 years after his prime. Even in his losses, beating him defined the fighter and is what included them in any real discussion. Would anyone really remember Douglas if he hadn't fought in Tokyo? Williams is still called Tyson Conqueror. Only Lewis and Holyfield's resume's could stand without the W against Mike, and even then, Lewis has significantly benefitted from the fight. If Oscar is an ATG, then so is Mike.
He's definately an ATG for what that's worth. Always thought of Tyson like a supercar. Needs to be treated the right way in order to do amazing things.
Top 20, possibly top 15. The idea that he was suddenly past prime in his twenties is a **** excuse to me. An ATG fighter should have a degree of mental strength and composure that Tyson obviously didn't have. He might not have been as good in the mid 90s but he was still physically prime
