Well, what do you think? We have two talented boxers, both explosive and with good skills. The amount of support for such a low weight fight seems to be pretty shocking to me at least. I'm not sure who will win... Or at least I wouldn't bet on this one. Favor Donaire on styles and athleticism, but with Montiel's right sledgehammer anything could happen. What say you? Could this be a bantamweight classic?

It's so good that it's actually taking place, I thought about Classicing the fight also. It's the only one I'm literally excited about coming up. I mean literally excited, as in erect. It's legitimately a legacy fight for both men and historically important. I also favor Donaire but if I were writing off Montiel, I wouldn't be this erect. Did I mention my literal erection yet? Because it's there. Not to obsess, but yeah. We're so close close to the fight, I can't even balance the laptop on my lap right now. It's on the arm of the chair. It's actually getting a bit painful right now. They say if it goes more than six hours, you might be in trouble. :conf

Edit: Oh, no, watching the gifs has made it worse. Do any of my fellow old-timers have some salt peter handy?

You did mention your erection, lol. Which reminds me of those Cialis commercials. If I ever get an erection lastin' 4 hours, I ain't the one gonna be needin' a doctor, know what I'm sayin? ;-). So go round up your girlfriend and give'er one for the classic and lay off the salt peter.

As for the fight, I'm genuinely excited also (short of erection). Could be a classic. I'm taking Nonaire. I think he has the rare abillity to fight up to the level of the challenge in front of him. Possible knockdowns on both sides, but I'm taking Nonaire by stoppage, I'll say around 8.

This is pretty much where I'm at. The Sidorenko fight sold me on Nonito as far as the Bantams go... Incredible what he looks like when he's actually motivated to fight or pressured with an opponent. I think Montiel will bring out the best in Donaire....Or he will crush his spirit. Can't wait either way.

    I voted Donaire.....UD
Until now...Probably the most important fight of the year......
Donaire is a big guy for the division, the size difference between him and Sidorenko was huge ! I think his speed will be too much for Montiel.....

    Can't wait for this!

Donaire UD seems the sensible choice but there's no clear favourite in my opinion.

This is one modern day fight, outside of Pac fights, that excites me. Donaire will win this one...not to discredit Montiel..but Donaire has this SRRish thing about him...that shot he finished Darchinyan with, the way he moves to set up his artillery, etc., he reminds me of Robinson..

Donaire should have that foot-speed, agility, speed and boxing skills to win a wide decision, but Montiel can really punch and is patient with it, he'll wait 2-3 maybe even 4-5 rounds to lure you into a trap. And Donaire for all his physical skills, and decent technical skills, he can be sloppy and make mistakes.

I'd pick a Donaire decision, but a Montiel KO (coming from behind) wouldn't surprise me.

I have always thought it, although I have opted not to voice this comparison (equating any fighter to SRR usually ends in tears and laughs but I agree). I remember a YT interview with Donaire where they compared the Darchinyan KO to Robinson Fullmer a while back.... Interesting, that.

Donaire's a lefty turned orthodox, so he can throw those amazing hooks and power jabs. As a result, I thought he lacked a strong right cross. But against Sidorenko I saw him throw a crushing right uppercut. I wanna see him work with his right more, and go to the body with more frequency.... Imagine that hook aimed at a liver!

I have predicted a Donaire KO win. I'm not sure if that's realistic. I think Montiel's a tough guy. On paper Donaire scores higher in nearly every category...But that's just paper. Excited, either way. Hopefully the winner fights the showtime tourney winner. Given Top Rank's newfound collaboration with Showtime it should happen.

I suppose I'll have to go with Donaire. Montiel is a good puncher but not much else. Donaire is far from perfect but has some very good tools, more than Montiel, anyway. I figure if he plays his cards right he'll pack up the points before stopping Montiel in the later rounds.

Ohhhh, come on, El. You'll make your ass so hard you can barely sit down on it.

...I've had some monetary issues that negate part of that suggested plan...I won't go into it just now...
Donaire, by knockout. I do think Donaire may prove to be the type that brings his game up to the level of opposition if Darchinyan and Sydorenko are anything to judge on, and I think they likely are. Montiel is tough to predict and does weird things with his offense that throw people. It might throw Donaire too and get him knocked out. I don't think it goes the distance. If it does, it's easiest to pick the fast athlete of the two for the decision (not that this can't backfire completely). I picked Donaire kayo on the poll anyway.
