Sweet. They aren't like the majority on ESB that think he is over rated cuz they don't know how to watch a fight.
Robert is deserving because of his trials outside the ropes, but if you go on ring accomplishments you pretty much have to go with Donaire.
I'm totally behind Donaire getting this recognition based on his accomplishments, but I'm a little sick of people arguing he deserves it more than Marquez because Donaire takes VADA testing and Marquez works with Heredia (as was flat out stated by self-righteous Lampley on HBO and as is implied in the Raskin article on ESPN). Donaire works with Conte, which should negate any goodwill from the year-round testing and make that particular criterion utterly irrelevant for determining your fighter of the year. If you believe he deserves it because he had a better year, great. Just don't try to tell me that Donaire is absolutely positively clean and Marquez is likely dirty, and that alone is what decides it.
I wont disagree too much but let's look at Donaire. He had the height, reach and AGE advantage in all his fights except Matabula who looked like Manut Bol in there. The betting odds were hugely in favor of Donaire so he was EXPECTED to blow these guys out. Quantity should not count over quality. I would have picked JMM. The guy is almost FORTY, was noticeably slower and put Pac south of ***** street. JMM was the smaller man. Everything was stacked against him including the betting odds.
So you think a guy that hung a second consecutive loss on someone deserves it more based on just that one fight?
Very happy to see Donaire won, he deserves it after a great year, not just for him but boxing as a whole.
