Yeah so? Everybody has critics, even from their own countrymen. Doesn't mean he's not loved in his country, right? He became one of my favorites after he KO'ed Darchinyan.
I hope Nonito doesn't get Oscar syndrome because he was raised here but he's doing alright. I caught the Donaire-Montiel fight on Youtube but it was the Philippine broadcast and they were laying it on pretty thick about how great he looked so I don't think it'll be an issue. Being a filthy half-Flip mongrel, I feel I can relate to him.:good Except i'm playing catch-up with my roots. My wife got me to eat fish about 3 weeks ago and enjoy it.
He's white. Born to Christian missionaries. Their entire family, including Tim, visit the Philippines every year to do missionary work. Tim's uncle is a pastor living in the Philippines now full time. They've done this now for over 20 years.
American. His parents were missionaries and to count as an American citizen being born overseas, both your parents need to be American.
I read Oscar's book. He explains the burrito eaters hated him, because he believed in the science of boxing over blocking punches with your face margarito "mexican" style. His haters wanted him to fight like a cholo. Is there a set tradition for pinoys in boxing? What I've seen so far are these carbon copies trying to be emmanuel, but that has to be more recent ****. I've seen some pinoy critics on here saying he fights the "slick Black" style. He has love for your country.:thumbsup

The styles vary. There hasn't really been a set style for Filipinos to my knowledge, a lot of the famous ones were supposedly very technical. Manny's unorthodox style is going to be unorthodox to anyone. Those kids coming up just trying to emulate him are going to be very disappointed when they find out they don't have the physical gifts needed to fight the way he does. I don't know why people try and say Nonito fights like a black fighter. He's technically sound and moves a lot, that's how a smart fighter should be.
