I found it interesting that Nonito left Shaw because he wasnt getting big fights...then went to Arum and exactly the same thing happened. Even though Shaw was setting up the Vic rematch by offering Donaire a fight on the same card as Darchinyan. He was really a nobody when he beat Vic and that doesnt automatically translate into him taking his profile. It had to be built and Arum did it exactly the same way Shaw would have, by getting Nonito in with some lower tier opposition first and hyping him up through TV exposure. Arum is well known for purposely putting off the fights the public want, so he can build them up and make himself more money.
Regardless, Vic didn't push for the rematch. He (or his team) avoided it like the plague. So there is one fighter ON RECORD of avoiding Donaire. Keith
ARum gives him keep busy fights, Shaw put ND on one show and then nothing for nearly a year LOL..:hey It was clear as daylight Shaw did not want to promote NONITO son.
Poopy talk. Donaire injured his hand in the December 07 fight with Maldanado. He specifically stated he probably wouldnt be ready to fight for a while, I think his uncle or something was sick aswell and wanted to spend time with him. He seemed cool to put off fighting till April, considering he had bitched about Shaw setting up the Maldanado fight to quickly I cant see why he would have an issue with that. That fight in Dubai against I think Hussein got postponed and then fell through...and not because of Shaw who wasnt promoting it. Shaw then got Donaire a spot on the Kirilov-Darchinyan card, clearly to set up a fight between the winner. Donaire signed with Arum in July/August of that year and Top Rank was the one who promoted the Mthlane fight. Shaw help set him up a fight less then 5 months after his last bout..Given he had to overcome an injury thats a pretty decent turnaround. Fight fell through and he got him another one in August. Considering what would have come if he had taken that fight, a likely rematch with Vic, the wait was well worth it. But it was Donaire who had a ***** and ran to the Arum to fight a string of fringe contenders for interim titles. Donaire was being a prima donna well before this ****...He expected the world and when things fell through he went running for the another promoter who really gave Donaire opportunities that were no better. Now you got every **** in the world acting as though he is the avoided one. Donaire has more talent in his pinky then half the fighters at 112-118 but he has clearly let that get to his head....and it may well be his undoing one of these days.
to be fair, a donaire-montiel fight was initially set. but montiel decided to move up in weight, saying he can't make 115 anymore. note that this was two months before the scheduled fight and montiel has enough time to shed off the extra fight. did montiel avoid the fight? maybe :think
Well he is "on the record" calling out Donaire in just about every interview you can find. Nonito went quiet about it after a while, probably out of frustation, usually just citing Vic should have fought him immediately after. No doubt Shaw was just a bitter ****, who wasnt keen on getting Nonito paid again after he jumped ship...but Arum played his part, pretty much questioning the economic sense of the fight on several occasions. Wanting to match Donaire in fights in weird locations usually against Mexicans, probably because he has a decent stable of them.
If you really want a fighter, you will get your promoter to make the fight. That is if you REALLY want it. Keith
Pavlik wanted to fight Winky Wright REALLY badly...Arum never got it done. Cotto was dying to fight Kermit Cintron and Arum told him kindly to sit down and S-T-F-U. Sometimes promoters have their own ideas and they do what they want.
