Rigo took Donaire to school. Donaire was the student and Rigo was the professor. Utter dominance by Rigo. He controlled the fight from start to finish.

my friend. looking at the official scoring. had Donaire won the last round, it would have been a split decision. (for Rigondeaux, by 1 point on the deciding card) that's how close the official scoring was. 115-112 would have been 114-113, and the 114-113 would have been 113-114. i'm just stating facts, at how the punch that hurt Donaire's eye was huge.

In the middle to late rounds I kept thinking "Go Margarito on his ass." Wing body shots, hit elbows and forearms if need be, but get on him and throw to the torso.

I give Rigo that he moved well. But if you've watched Donaire's last fights, he's fought similarly against lesser opposition. His punch output has gone down dramatically. It wasn't all Rigo. He fell in love with his power, that's part of it. He can come back from this. This wasn't a Corrales vs Floyd type of schooling. Let's be honest, Rigo landed little, more than Donaire, but still little.

Rigo is a good fighter, but I just think Donaire has more potential. I get the feeling that Rigo's a finished product, he's not changing or improving. However, if Donaire mixes it up instead of just hitting once and admiring his power, he can improve.

Also, Rigo is VERY quick. He surprised the hell out of me.

That would be the opposite of an amateur style...

Nonito does that on his own, which is why I thought Rigo would win. He throws 30 punches per round consistently as an elite athlete in a lower weight class.

Really though, Donaire was not ready for Rigondeaux! I can think of a lot of things Donaire could have done to adjust but he wasn't going to do any of it. He could have jumped on him early but remember he struggled to make weight, and even after the knockdown he didn't follow up? Seems like he was tired. Not to mention Rigondeaux's feet were way faster, most of the times Donaire actually tracked Rigo down he was not in a good position to punch.
