A decent south african, he's the IBF champ I believe, he's also pretty big for a super bantamweight at 5"10

He's rated #6 by the Ring.

Decent little card. . . Mathebula, and Herrara are worthy enough B-side guys. . .

Herrera could easily play spoiler. . Surprised they're throwing Rios in with another Abril type. . . Herrara is a bit more aggressive, and has more balls than Abril, so it could be a sweet little two-way action fight. . Rios will probably be too strong, and stop him late, or win 117-111 type decision. . .

Mathebula is better than Mijares, but there's still a lot of guys who should be fighting Donaire first - Nishioka, Arce, Rigo. . But whatever, it's cool!

With few exceptions, the HBO platform (specifically the main event and co-feature slots), IMO, shouldn't be used for name fighters to be matched against opponents who either haven't had a previous presence on the network - or other networks with similar platforms and thus are complete unknowns to the general public.

This platform should be reserved for big fights - and neither one of these fights qualify, IMO.

These are **** fights. They should be on ESPN at best rather than HBO.

I agree with the concept. . Showtime really started making the move towards putting on competitive fights, rather than simply trying to "build" "house fighters". . . I thought HBO was going to change towards this as well, but this is definitely a "showcase" card for two named fighters. .

I mean, but obviously if we as HBO subscribers want to see on average at least one card a month, it's hard to find competitive, big fights on a regular basis. . .

THis card really isn't that bad for a "showcase" type card. . . Mathebula seems to be one of the better guys in the division, and Herrara has a style that could create some two-way action with Rios.

    So-so doubleheader.

Anyone that thinks Mathebula is more of a challenge to Donaire than Mijares would have been just due to being bigger either hasn't seen recent footage of both or DKSAB.
