Why tho... what's the point of moving down and not fighting big fights?

 

Rigo not daring to be great...or banking that the winner (either bigger star Donaire or a higher profile Casimero) will absolutely have to fight him next, leaving him the chance to take the undisputed fight against Inoue, turning one payday into three?

That's a hell of a gamble for someone who has never had significant drawing power.

 

What else can Rigo do but gamble at this point?

 

Fight and beat Cassimero, challenge Donaire to unification, then Inoue. Betting on himself rather than gambling that the cards fall in his favor.

According to the twitter of Donaire's wife/manager, MP promotions (who rep. Casimero) approached them for the idea of a unification fight. They worked things out, and offered Rigo step-aside money, which he took, apparently on the understanding that he gets the winner. Even if that is signed on a document, I don't know how much it will be worth, given that all four of the governing bodies have it as part of their ruleset that "unifications trump mandatories" which is what Rigo is reducing himself to being. May be counting on yet another step-aside check before finally facing the undisputed champion.

I'm very disappointed in Rigo for taking step aside money. That's such a beta move.

Maybe he was scared of Casimero and he's banking on Donaire beating him so he can fight Donaire again.

 

He's thinking he can get 4 paydays instead of one or two; step-aside, gimmie replacement fight, Donaire/Casimero winner, Inoue. Basically, he thinks he's being smart, and I doubt it will work out for him like that.
