I mean, ultimately Rigondeaux didn't have a completely wasted 2012 as far as activity goes. He fought thrice, that's perfectly acceptable. Better than his once in 2011. :!:

This fourth appearance, though, on HBO, and sharing a bill with Donaire...that had some tasty implications heading into 2013.

 

Round 1

Terrazas is working the jab and crossing his right arm vertically across his throat, shifting into Ruiz's counterpunches to catch them on his mitt with his neck bolstering its shock absorption. Ruiz tosses out straight shots on the back foot as Terrazas puts in jabs and hooks coming forward. A few touches to the body for Ruiz.

Round 2

Terrazas steps back as Ruiz tries to bull his way in and work in rights to the body. Left hook by Terrazas, catching Ruiz flush and opening up a big combo for Terrazas. Ruiz keeps coming. Terrazas blocks some jabs while circling left, turning his palms out a bit. Hard right hand by Terrazas. Ruiz gets in close and grinds his head into Terrazas's chest, working the body. Terrazas pulls the chair out and smacks him with a solid left hook.

Round 3

Terrazas is clapping down with rights as Ruiz ducks and bores in, hurling his own right into the body. Terrazas can't keep Ruiz off him, so he resorts to skipping across the ring in reverse with jabs trailing out to slow Ruiz.

Round 4

Terrazas is still struggling to control the distance as Ruiz comes tanking in, digging the body. Overhand right by Ruiz connects. Terrazas isn't shaken by it, but does go into his tentative slide outside and paw out a triple jab. Ruiz presses his forehead into Terrazas's chest and throws roundhouses into the body. BIG uppercut by Ruiz, gut-check. Terrazas circles out to his left and desperately tries to establish the jab, rattling it off Ruiz's skull to no effect.

Round 5

Terrazas is getting cue-balled into the corner as Ruiz gets his shoulder up and presses in doggedly. Terrazas is getting hooked in the body and trying to respond in kind while backing up. He gets out to range and lines up a HUGE COUNTER RIGHT. Ruiz doesn't blink, but that was the best punch of the night. Spirited fighting back and forth throughout the round.

Round 6

Terrazas works the jab as Ruiz comes grinding in with uppercuts to the body in hot pursuit. Terrazas is getting into a rhythm now, tracking around Ruiz and keeping the jab on him and turning aside some of his goring charges but still getting his midsection ripped up a bit.
