    it was not cowardly
navarez tried his best but could not do so as donaire is way to big as

    Donaire is
    5" taller
slightly faster (due to donaire being +7 years younger)
    stronger
5 in reach advantage- no 1 reason why fight was a borefest navarez jabs could not reach donaire
+20 lbs heavier on fight night also

in other words it was a klitschko adamek type match up. I give navarez props for frustrating donaire which his other opponents could not do so.

In short, I think it would be harsh to give Donaire any stick for it.

When a very capable defensive fighter wants to stink the place out, it can make even the most spectacular offensive fighters look ordinary. It happens, a fight with Arce or Nishioka will provide far different outcomes and far more compelling contests....well, compelling beatdowns :yep

Narvaez should've watched more Marlon Starling. Maybe then he could've utilised his good guard and made up for his lack of power to actually move forward and make it a fight. Ho-hum, not getting destroyed by constantly backpedaling seems to pass for 'good boxing' nowadays.

The only credit Narvaez deserves is for being pragmatic and realizing he had absolutely no chance so he hid all night. It's not a problem for Donaire, he can just move onwards and upwards, he's always better against better opponents, especially aggressive ones.

I guess one thing I'd criticize Donaire for is you got to work the body against a guy like this. Create your own opportunities.

Agree with that. I was calling for him to go to the body from about the 3rd or 4th round but he just wasn't going for it (guess he couldn't hear me from London...). Against someone with the defence and movement of Narvaez bodywork is vital imo. It slows down his movement and will eventually lower the high guard. It's an investment for later in the fight :deal

Disagree with the HBO commentators saying "oh it would open him up too much for a counter" when Narvaez really isn't a puncher so Donaire wouldn't have had anything to worry about coming back at him imo

Same here, he knew full well Narvaez couldn't hurt him, he should've tried more.

Just coasted with the occasional flurry. Some nice work, but a dud fight which did little to enhance his reputation or experience.

This was a case of bad match making, I'm not going to say I always said this would happen but there is always a heightened risk of this type of fight when you have such a discrepancy in height, reach and speed, between two fighters. That is amplified even further when you have a fighter that moves like Narvaez.

When they announced the potential opponents for Donaire, I actually wanted to see him in with Christian Esquivel. He is a legitimate Bantamweight, decent puncher and would have represented the biggest opponent Donaire has faced, may have been blown out but at least it would have been fun.
