Both Filipino and been flyweight champs 12 rounds who wins and why? Ive only seen on fight of Villa on youtube where he took a guy out in like 30 seconds im going to watch the Jimmy Wilde fight too sometime.
Villa was never knocked out. Donaire is huge compared to him though but so were Jimmy McLarnin and Bud Taylor. Already short, Villa would bend down and use the cross-arm block to make himself an even more difficult target. He could be hit but he took a great punch. I wonder how Donaire ever made the flyweight limit. He is big enough as a bantamweight.
:huhHe had a fighter going and went in for the kill. That's the kinda thing fighters do. I've seen the Wilde footage. I found his defense in the pocket actually quite good. That's actually how he got the better of him, his superior skills.
[dm]xls0io_pancho-villa-vs-jimmy-wilde_sport[/dm] Considering how poor the quality of the footage is, I thought both men looked quite impressive in this. Certainly puts to rest any argument that combinations weren't thrown in those days. Villa even triples up on his left hand at times (1:00).
Villa was a great fighter, no doubt.......But Donaire is too big in comparison...not fair in my opinion....
Villa looked ****in' ace against Wilde, and the Welshman looked no different to other awkward lower weight bombers such as Darchinyan. Villa let off combinations that wouldn't look out of place in the modern ring IMO. I imagine he'd have been at a similar size disadvantage against the future Welterweight McLarnin, and even injured went the duration. No way Nonito gets rid of him in the first round. Let's match fight night Nonito with someone his own size. A young Julio Cesar Chavez will do. Or Ike Williams.
If he didn't get rid of Darchinyan in the first round then he doesn't get rid of Villa either. We know about Darchinyan's right hand and it's not next to his chin.
