well theres no such thing as a prime feather weight donaire.he was at his best in the lower weight classes where he could use his own size advantage against smaller men.moving up to feather weight took that advantage away.Im not saying he only won fights because of that btw he had boxing ability he was a terrific counter puncher his left hook was one the best punches in boxing.
i think his head is not in the game after Rigo or pre-childrens days....heard the 2nd one coming and i was just thinking to myself, its definitely over for Donaire...he doesnt look like the destructive fighter he once was and is definitely distracted.
A motivated Donaire was a helluva fighter. Nowadays I really question how much he really is into boxing. He has a lot of distractions in his life. edit lol JeanGrey, we are on the same wavelength.
I also think Donaire is someone who doesn't handle distractions particularly well either. Where as guys like Mayweather and Pacquiao have had anything from a jail sentence to a political run going on, you never get the impression they take their Eye completely off the ball. Donaire had so much going on, a pregnant wife, drug test Guinea pig, trying to get a Mares fight, long commutes to camp, fighter of the year speehes and ceramonies that Rigondeaux probably barely had time to cross his mind.
His weight cutting was part of it, but he actually had very good skills on top of that. I don't think you could call any man with 18 title fights and how many belts a fraud. He's just 32, with a wife and kid, and boxing isn't on his mind as much as it once was. Time to hang it up and try something else.
I believe so. I mean he struggled moving up in weight and fighting past prime. Special boxers can move in weight and continue to fight on 30 + years old look at Hopkins and Marquez. But then again maybe this Walters is special in his own right. Donaire the midget destroyer was good @ 112-118 but above that he was struggling and the hype was over the top.
I think that's also part of it we know how good rigo is his skills are insane and walters could be this new force to be reckoned with.so losing to those two does not make him a fraud.a fraud to me is guys who are made out to be the next big thing in boxing but never prove anything like victor ortiz andre berto and broner.
Anyone who calls donaire a fraud is total joke of a boxing fan. He fought Rigo and Walters after being named Fighter of the year just two years prior. He put it all on the line against those guys and was pretty classy in defeat against both of them. He agreed to participate in OSDT on his own. What the hell is wrong with you that you would even ask this question?
He was not classy against Rigo. Donaire said he should have won. And of course the I didn't prepare 100% excuse.
I felt heading into the Rigo fight that Boxing was not on his mind even watching the Training and the second Darchinyan fight he looked Awful
He was recently pictured with Inoue and towered over the Japanese youngster which I think certainly played a part in why he had so much success. Early on however he looked not just big but also very talented, I dare say when he was fighting men naturally similar in size to himself he was finding life difficult and it wasn't just Rigondeaux and subsequent. Fights with WV2, Narvaez and Mthebula were less than stellar. Wins over Nishioka and Arce covered the cracks but came against fighters were either retired or should have been retired. He was over-rated when he was in the pound-for-pound elite, but he was on the verges of being an elite fighter. Had he retired after beating Nishioka with a record of 30-1 (19) he'd have been been "better on paper" when new fans look back in 10-15 years but both us and himself would have been left wondering what he could have done
