Did his last fight reveal a weakness soon to unravel his career? I haven't seen anyone talking much about him but maybe the threads get buried under the Floyd/Pac/Cotto ones. Anyway, why did he look so bad? -why couldn't he control Concepcion the way he did Darchynian? Why did this kid walk into the ring with no jab?
he didn't have the power to keep the guy as honest as his other opponents. Concepcion was big enough to take a punch or two to land one, which against Donaire is rarity. Donaire himself has a solid beard though but he was outweighed by 4.5 lbs at the weigh-in so its normal. If Donaire had trained for 119lbs it would have been a different fight. But Donaire does have problems. He was not very good at potshotting which an elite, versatile fighter would have switched up to quickly against a bigger slower guy like Concepcion and would have won the fight without taking so much damage. Donaire tried but got cornered often and had trouble getting off first and then moving away. Cause lets be real here although Concepcion was much bigger he is not a very good fighter. Donaire sets up his offense off his opponent's offense. If his opponent can plow through his counters, Donaire gets in trouble. Like you said he needed a solid jab to stick and move on Concepcion but its not really part of his arsenal. TBH although Donaire is great at couterpunching we have yet to see if he can 1) potshot his way against a bigger, stronger, good boxer-puncher and 2) put the heat on someone who is potshotting his way against him and not sticking around for the counters.
It also seems the best way to have controled him would have been a jab which would have utilized Donaires height and speed advantage. I like your post btw.
No one is talking about him because he stunk in Pinoy power 2.He had some good moments but overall, he has to FIGHT instead of run and put on a show. Throw more punches..
Concepcion cheated at the scales That interim belt doesnt mean **** because he held it before, he knew he was part of the main event if he came in overweight he knew they werent going to cancel it otherwise the entire card gets scrapped a day before(waste of promotion $$$), and a win over Donaire no matter in what way will get him more opportunites to fight named fighters.
he still looked like sh*t out there. It happens to fighters. and because manny pacquiao moves up in weight and makes it look easy, doesn't help donaire's performances
He was in against an ok fighter who didnt even try to make weight. I though he did pretty well considering. I think all it proved is that Nonito should have a long hard think about how far he wants to move up.
He has to do something about his left hand though. If he starts busting it more and more during fights, he'll essentially eliminate most of his own offense.
He didnt look good in the methebula fight and this fight. What has changed since then? He got married, let his wife control his life and kicked his dad to the curve.
That's the stylistic match up that Nonito isn't comfortable with, a kid who can press him back.He just isn't comfortable with that yet.More fights like this he should figure it out or go bust.:yep
