June fourteenth in Buenos Aires. At stake will be the vacant WBA interim bantamweight championship. Donaire is currently ranked #5 by the WBA, while Campos is #8. The current "full" champion is Antonio Vargas of Houston, himself being only recently elevated after defeating Winston Guerrero last December in a similar situation for the vacant interim title. The organization stripped Seiya Tsutsumi a couple of weeks ago for being medically unfit to unify with Vargas. Likely the new interim champ, Donaire or Campos, will be Vargas' first mandatory challenger. This would be the Philippines born American veteran's fourth time reigning in the bantamweight division alone, bookended with his violent rout of Fernando Montiel in February 2011 to capture the WBC & WBO belts. It is meanwhile the Chilean's second time being scheduled to go twelve rounds, after unsuccessfully challenging Sunny Edwards for the IBF flyweight title two years ago. Campos is fourteen years younger. Donaire has a 3½″ height and four inch reach advantage.
Campos isn't a bad fighter, so this is a good fight for Donaire in his comeback trail. The current WBA champion is Antonio Vargas, who to be honest I'm not that familar with. But I reckon Donaire could take him on and win.
