This is exactly what the sport needs and everything that is RIGHT with boxing.

Both fighters came to win. There was no trash talk or bad blood, nothing but respect to both guys. They both exceeded expectations. Donaire lasting the distance and hurting Inoue, and Inoue answering a lot of questions about his chin and heart. Beautiful display from both warriors.

I gave Donaire rounds 2,8,9. A few of the early rounds were close but those 3 rounds were clear Donaire rounds.

You want to know why I despise most boxing fans?

Sergey Alexandrovich Kovalev vs. Saúl Álvarez Barragán & Ryan García vs. Romero Caingcoy Duno RBR: 6th all-time most replied to RBR thread in board history, with 2,208 (behind only Pacquiao vs. Bradley I, Joshua vs. Parker, Mayweather vs. Guerrero, Mayweather vs. Cotto, and Mayweather vs. Maidana I) - and 44k views in less than a week. It was already over 2k replies within an hour of the broadcast ending.

Nonito Gonzales Donaire Jr. vs. Naoya Inoue & Nordine Oubaali vs. Takuma Inoue RBR: 764 replies, 11k views.

Thrice as many replies, quadruple as many views. (granted this will clock a few more in the days to come, but just a trickle of curious latecomers; I'd say it tops out at 15k, max)

Today we had what, a dozen of us watching & commenting? Maybe about 15-16? In the Canelo vs. Krusher thread it was easily a hundred unique posters.

And you know what? You can't assign it to DAZN having put on a lengthy undercard because as of the main event ring walks the whole damn thing (including the Kingry vs. Duno co-feature, and people talking about the UFC fight that was delaying the main event) only racked up about 700 replies. So that one fight itself generated about 1,500.

Contrast with this RBR, wherein the replies sat at just under 300 before the main event ring walks...meaning it has (granted, only an hour of simmer-down time having passed thus far) generated only four hundred and change.

Canelo and Inoue are both considered, universally, top 5 pound for pound, am I correct? Both were taking on aging underdogs, but still DANGEROUS guys who both will probably go in the Hall of Fame, correct?

Yet look at the replies, views, and member turnout for each.

    Fuck boxing fans.

Yeah, fair point, to an extent... and people can of course be forgiven not getting up at the crack of dawn for the undercard (like some of us diehard yahoos setting our alarms for quarter of 5am) but the main event got underway at the very reasonable morning hour of 7:30... Idk, this is the kind of fight I'd think real boxing fans would have circled in red on their calendar, and call in to work late (at the very least) for. :nusenuse:

And you can't say that Canelo vs. Krusher didn't start at just as awkward a time, given the delay to wait on the UFC. 1:30am EST is horrific.

I have to say, I think this was pretty much boxings version of Godzilla vs Angurius. Nonito Donaire was Anguirus to Inoue's Godzilla.
If anyone follows Godzilla movies Anguirus is usually the tough, tenacious monster who respects Godzilla and doesn't back down against anyone. And that's exactly what Donaire was when he fought Inoue.

They are scum. No doubt. But this fight started at 4:30 am where I live on a Thursday. Canelo vs Kovalev started at about 8 pm on a Saturday. Besides, I'm sure that the Japanese language boxing forums took this a lot more seriously than we did.

Huh? Who said anything about Tete? Inoue's defense is his offense and his legs. He fights with his chin in the air as we just saw. Fortunately for him he takes a good punch and makes his opponents wear the pillow like Winning brand gloves.

Too bad he didn't fight any of the four or five best Bantams when he first fought at 118.

Alright, when you put it that way, people on the West Coast of the US have a pretty good excuse.

Over here on the Atlantic seaboard, though? If you can watch a p4p top 5 guy at 1:30am , you can watch another p4p top 5 guy at 7:30am. :deal:
