Mares has already stated he wants Donaire, Rigo, Moreno or whoever. He also was very honest and forthcoming about having already fought and lost to Rigo a couple times in the ams. He said he would like another crack at him, because the amateur fights were good (he's planning to put the fights up on YouTube) and he's not afraid to lose, because he gives it his all and people will still want to watch him fight regardless. Basically he has let his management and promoters know whichever elite fighter wants to fight him first, he wants them, so make it happen. Mares also said he wants to take his division back to the old days, when all the big stars fought each other all the time. He thinks, if he sets the example of fighting whoever, whenever, others will follow suit.

Mares was very open and honest in the interview. Bringing up his loses in the Am's to Rigo himself (he volunteered the info it wasn't asked) he said if his team will please make the fight, he is going to make the amateur fights with Rigo available on YouTube as a means of promoting the fight, so the people can see that they were close entertaining fights back then. If I remember correctly, I believe he also said he wants Rigo first before Donaire or anybody else (if possible). But I know for sure the 2 fights he wants first are Rigo and Donaire in that order, after that he wants to clean out all elite opposition before finally moving up in weight.

I got the impression Abner wants to achieve great things in boxing, and he is willing to take the risks and possibly lose if it means a shot at being a icon remembered throughout history. It was a very honest, and impressive interview.

 

i have been following mares since his amateur days and i like the kid a lot....but to be honest...i was very disappointed in him in the fights with agbeko. he can be a dirty fighter and there is no doubt in my mind that in both fights he had help from the ref. i would like to see him fight any of the above mentioned fighters outside of cali where there will be neutral refs.

disagree. i dont see how its any worse than the mathebula fight.

rigos unknown to casual fans, boxing fans know him. mathebulas unknown to casual fans and even some hardcore fans never heard of him before the donaire fight. rigo has the wba belt. math had the ibf belt. donaire beats rigo his stock goes WAY up. donaire beat math and somehow his stock went down.

 

Love nonito hes a bay area kid like ward but that sounded like a duck. And while im on bay area fighters ward should fight dawson @ lhw if he wants to prove his critics wrong about fighting a drained chad dawson. Dawson hasnt fought 168 in a while.

I agree, however Chad doesn't have a problem with making the weight according to him. Although John Scully his trainer still isn't thrilled about the prospect.
