    Hello,
I am new to amateur boxing and starting training with a coach very soon. In the past few weeks I have read several articles/ watched several videos about footwork and noticed that, when explaining how to execute the "step and slide" technique, some teach that you should move the foot closest to the direction you want to go and PUSH off the trail foot, while others do not even mention this push and seem to suggest to just step and "drag" the trail foot behind. Which one of these methods are correct, or are they one in the same and I am just misinterpreting them?

I don't think either is necessarily wrong. I personally do the step and drag. If I push off I think that's a spit second that you're off balance more than you should be.

Move the foot closest to the direction you are going. ie front foot forward, back foot backwards.
