Problem is, he rarely fought anything but lesser opponents, with the exception of guys like Julian Jackson. We saw what happened there.

Not that it has any bearing on the Benitez matchup, but it puts some perspective on your last paragraph.

Two off the very best boxers in history bettered Benitez, I don't think the comparison between a far more limited and flawed fighter in Norris can be made. All in all, I think Benitez just has too much class for Norris, who I don't rate especially highly.

Wilfred didnt have the heart to compete with someone like Terry. TN had more heart than Wilfred and ray combined. Ray leonard with his concocted retirements, placing Lalonde over Nunn as an opponent.

If Terry was going to lose it, he would have lost it early in the Leonard fight facing that hostile environment at the Garden--Leonard country. Only like fve people in the whole arena clapping for Terry. Why Dont seet pea mention that? Why dont minotauro mention that?

Terry knew he was enormous underdog, Ray was expecting Terry to unravel but I knew he wouldnt and made Leonard unfold instead! That's why I love Terry Norris. becuz he completely foiled the media's hopes and predictions.

No it isn't a ridiculous, Benitez defense is very overrated, he has a wonderful radar and is an excelent shot slipper but he was a little open and his parrying/blocking wasnt much to write home about.

The real eliter of defense are Whitaker, Mayweather, Pep, Loche, all much better and complete defensively. Leonard himself has a better defense because of his leg movement. In terms of radar andmovement Jones Jr is better. Duran and Tyson are more complete defensively.

And since when was Benitez winning a 'wide UD' over any top opponents he faced? He was winning SDs/MDs in most his bigger wins

 

Thats hardly fair, Leonard while past prime would still beat many 154lb champions in history, maybe that version of Leonard still beats 154lb Benitez? He'd probably have trained more for the fight :yep

What about Taylor who was freshing off arguably deserving a win over many peoples P4P no1 (Chavez)? Then the ex-P4P no1 Curry

All that aside Benitez is getting allot of kudos for being in the same ring as Leonard and Hearns, despite the fact he wasn't really competitive and was never in any danger of winning either fight. Norris doesn't need to be as good Leonard, because Leonard won pretty much every round, still Norris does have that speed of hand/foot, combinations and accuracy, not to mention power

Looking at his best wins there allot of close calls (SDs/MDs) over good but not breath taking opposition.

I think Norris is 1 of the most underrated talents personally

Those fights were no SD/MD's, atleast they shouldn't have been. Benitez beat Cervantes, Palomino and Duran clearly in my opinion.

Hearns vs Benitez was a majority decision too but do you think there was any controversy about who the winner was?

Leonard won because he was just incrementally better than Benitez in certain respects, such as handspeed and power. No one ever made Loenard miss as much as Benitez, and even the slight advantage in reach in Leonard's favor was critical. I agree that it was stopped prematurely, always have. It was a chessmatch, and had one of the most amusing staredowns I've ever seen, with Wilfred, who was just slightly shorter than Leonard tilting his head back slightly so that he had to look down at Ray, all with that smug, and strangely likeable arrogant demeanor of Benitez giving the illusion that he was a little taller than Leonard. I've never, before or since seen anybody play a little head game like that.
