Greetings Anubis! Long time fight fan here (until the mid-90's when you suddenly had 4-5 champions in each (new) division and 35-40 "top 10 contenders???" Just turned 60 last week. :nut My dad schooled me on all sports from the time I was five years old. Patterson was my childhood hero (Griffith a distant 2nd) as I was allowed to stay up and watch the Gillette Friday nite scraps and other bouts with dad, uncles, and their friends. I was so into boxing at that time that the 'old' guys asked my opinion after certain rounds.
I've tried to get more info on Cheroux but didn't he beat George 2 out of 3? DeJohn? Again, never had seen any footage except for a few minutes of Sonny, tho I'm aware he was a Big Banger! I guess I can only repeat what I previously said, unless Chuvalo could hurt you big time and unleash his arsenal, he could always get his ears boxed off and, when in with the big power-punching contenders/champs didn't have that crisp, numbing KO power that it would take to gather the win.
I do have the Quarry bout on tape where George unveiled an unexpected jab (Don Dumphy: "where did George get that jab?") Of course, Jerry (who I loved) could always be outboxed.
    We'll stay in touch.

Neither guy was feather fisted. Chuvalo was shorter but not smaller.
