What a fight that was and one of the best last rounds in a 15 rounds heavyweight title fight. Poor Kenny came so close to winning the decision.
Yea, that was a great fight. Gotta give Ken some credit, gave a good fight to one of the greatest heavies of all times! Freakin Holmes was amazing, love that guy
Rummy keeps bringing it. One of the best and probably my favorite heavyweight fight of all time. Marvelous monument to the sport of boxing. (I'm talking about the fight here, Rummy, not about you ) Keep it up. P.S. Have you done anything like this on Sanchez-Gomez? Would love to see your take to educate these youngsters, haha.
Funnily enough, Holmes was accused by several opponents and their trainers during his career as being a 'thumber'. Holmes kinda admitted as much in the buildup to his 1988 fight against Mike Tyson when he accused Tyson of being a dirty fighter in his previous fight against Tyrell Biggs. He said that Tyson had got away with hitting Biggs with forearms and elbows as well as hitting after the bell but that if Tyson tried the same dirty tactics with him, he would also fight dirty by using his glove to thumb his eyes when he connected with his jab and also to hit him low. Today, modern gloves are made with the thumb section stitched together with the rest of the glove so it incredibly hard to deliberately try to thumb someone's eyes when throwing a punch.
