I don't see how you can score this fight for Norton. I know that (especially at the time) he was the established, near-great fighter who beat Ali, Quarry, lost to Foreman and beat Young, whereas Holmes was (is) an unlikeable, arrogant, unproven up-and-comer. However, on a round-by-round basis, i thought he was the clear winner by 2 or 3 points. A game effort by Norton and certainly a rematch was deserved, but not given.
Holmes by a point. Round breakdown: Norton: 1,5,8,11,12,14,15. Holmes:2,3,4,6,7,9,10,13. Would like to see some round-by-round breakdowns here. It's always interesting to note which rounds we score for a certain fighter. It may well come out that Norton won on any given 10 rounds amongst our cards. Not saying that's justification for giving him the win (we may have people giving Holmes any of 12 rounds amongst our cards), it's just interesting to note.
I had something like this. Will check tonight and post my scores. My feeling was that despite the closeness in score that Holmes was the clear winner.
