Pity when i rewatched this fight awhile ago this version wasn't available then, the quality is actually fantastic. Larry Holmes vs Ken Norton 1 Holmes 2 Holmes 3 Holmes 4 Holmes 5 Holmes 6 Holmes 7 Norton 8 Norton 9 Holmes 10 Norton 11 Norton 12 Norton 13 Holmes 14 Norton 15 Norton 143-142 Holmes
As I've often said - if the Fight of the Century was the perfect curtain raiser for the best ever decade of heavyweights, then this one was the ideal finale. I don't think that there has been as good a heavyweight battle since then.
As for heavyweight title fights, I completely agree that Norton vs Holmes is the gold standard. Bowe vs Holyfield I comes close but Norton vs Holmes certainly better.
It boggles the mind how Spinks vs Ali 1 won FOTY over Norton vs Holmes, and even ROTY aswell if you can believe that
I have always said that Norton-Holmes is teh best heavyweight I ever seen. Then comes Holyfield-Bowe I and Ali-Frazier III
Good scorecard. Larry breaking through in the 13th was the key. He blunted Kenny's momentum just enough. Norton started so painfully slow and it cost him.
Its either this or the masterclass done on Ray Mercer as my favorite Larry Holmes fight. I think I lean a little more to the latter cuz of how the old legend took Mercer to school
Excellent quality. I remember the first copy I ordered of this fight, converted from NTSC to PAL on a VHS tape. Just to have some vision of the fight was cool but really, the quality was terrible. Colors flared, ghosting etc. I'm loving the constant upgrading of the quality of older fights. I've never scored this one. Maybe I'll give it a shot time permitting. Super close fight any which way you slice it. Stevie G is spot on re the FOTC and this fight being the perfect bookends for the era.
Two of the three judges had it for Holmes as well - and it won him the fight. I’ve always thought Holmes was a worthy winner but the last round is a very debatable one.
