Regardless of how high you rate him now, in about 50 years, those of us who are still around will speak of Tyson the way they talk about Dempsey today. The more we advance in time, the more we realize the uniqueness and greatness of someone like Tyson
completely agree. there are too many emotions, good or bad, that surface when talking about tyson at the moment. when the dust settles, he'll be considered greater than he is now. they'll say he lost to douglas and holyfield, but beat everyone else, and looked great doing it.
i think it plays a little part.. ofcourse i think most people will always have a soft spot for there childhood hero's or whatever you want to call them. but i think more important is the fact that in boxing and also in most other sports in the old days the sport was tougher. one example being they fought more rounds.. referees allowed more. and so on and so on.. ergo : them old guys where also tougher. so when you most compare a sportsman from nowadays with someone from let's say 40 or 50 years ago...and they both have skills from the same level.. the comparisson mostly falls out in the oldtimers favour. rightly so i think..
you're dad nows about football, hahaha. but seriously he is right.. the game became a little faster. but guys like georgie best, cruijff, beckenbauer where way way better then todays players
